Ikea Tindra Tealights
Advantages: Good burn and strong flame, very reasonable, lots of colour choices
Disadvantages: Not the strongest scent
As Christmas comes it is no surprise that I usually get given an array of candles and tea lights as the majority of friends and family know how much I love receiving and using them around our home. This year was no exception and I ended up with such an assortment of different candles that I could have opened up my own candle shop, with one such gift being a pack of Ikea Tindra Tealights. I had seen these tealights around the Ikea store in the past however; having never bought them myself I was keen to see how they would perform.
My Ikea Tindra Tea lights come simply packaged in what can only be descried as a thick layer of plastic which grouped the 36 tealights together into a solid block. There are a number of colour ways to chose from and I recall seeing them in neutral tones, soft pinks and purples, greens and then as in my case more vibrant colours such as red and orange. Why I was given the red, orange and yellow tealights I shall never know, as my house is a sea of neutrality with blues and purples being the only accent colours. Upon opening the plastic shield, the tealights pop easily out of their plastic home and can be described as being standard in size with a light metal casing and a sturdy white wick. There is an even number of each colour in a pack and so in my case I have 12 orange, 12 red and 12 yellow lights.
These tealights are scented and I believe that the scent differs according to the colour way purchased. In my case, the red, orange and yellow tealights are scented with what can only be described as a tropical smell which is fruity and light in odour. The fragrance is pleasant and whilst it was distinguishable whilst the tealights were in the pack I was interested to know how they would smell once lit. The tealight casing though metal in material is quite flimsy and does have a tendency to dent easily therefore I store my tealights in a drawer in between uses to prevent knocking.
To use these tealights I simply place them in an appropriate tealight holder before pulling the wick away from the body of the tealight so that it is in a vertical position and lighting with a match. I must stress from own experience the importance of placing the tealights in a holder as I have in the past left an exposed tealight on a kitchen counter leaving a round little scorch mark when the tealight was discarded. The wick ignites very easily in my opinion and produces a strong flame. In our house these tealights generally last for around 3 to 3 ½ hours burning time at which point the wick has used up all the wax and you are left with a small silver tin to discard.
In my opinion these are good quality tealights for the price that they cost and they do the job very well. The tealights look lovely at this time of the year as the flame jumps around in my clear glass holders and therefore I enjoy using them for the sparkle that they produce. I also have used mine in a tart burner with success. The scent of these tealights is very faint compared to some of the more expensive brands such as Yankee in which the smell jumps out on you as you enter the room, however I can detect a hint of scent when these are being burned which is more noticeable the closer that you are to the tealight.
These tealights are priced at £1.75 for a pack of 36 tealights from the Ikea store. Effectively this equates to just under 5p per tealight or more scientifically a minimum of 108 hours of burn time for the entire pack. The reasonable price of these tealights and the usefulness of them around my home means that I consider the price a bargain and would definitely consider buying these tealights myself in the future, albeit not in the vibrant colours that I currently own.
I would highly recommend these tealights to you and as a result they score an excellent four stars from me.
