Advantages: Cheap

Disadvantages: Cut bum

Izal toilet tissue was common in many household toilets and in public toilets and even schools right up until about 1975, but thankfully it isn't so common now except in some pensioners houses.

Izal is more like tracing paper than tissue paper and the reason it is medicated is probably because it has a danger of cutting your bum when you wipe with it so the medication will come in handy!

Some technical details that I found on the internet are that it has an average of 336 single ply sheets which are sized 16.5 x 11.2 cms giving an overall area of 6.2 sqm. It is made in Norfolk but not by Bernard Matthews. The paper is not chlorine bleached and is made from a renewable source which is great for the environment!

The two things that I remember most about Izal is the smell which smelled like hospitals and that it didn't actually work very well. The paper had a sort of shine to it which led to skidding. It really wasn't ideal for its purpose! If doing either a number one or number two it was quite sore to use and to be honest I'd prefer to use an old bit of newspaper if this was all I had in the house. It had ver low absorbancy which meant that it was useless for picking up spillages or if someone sprinkled on the toilet seat.

You can see a photo of a sheet of izal at the web page http://www.whom.co.uk/chairs/izal_sheet.jpg and you can buy six flat boxes for £5.11 on the internet at http://www.westons.com/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_I zal_2748.html or for 89p each at http://www.shop1.waitrose-wps.co.uk/WorkplaceShopp ing/Goods.asp?GroupCode=452&Grou pName=Toilet+Tissues
