Advantages: Smells lovely in tin
Disadvantages: Doesn't give out smell when lit, expensive
Spring time in my family always means birthday time and I seem to spend months getting birthday presents organised and searching for new ideas. Whilst browsing Amazon for a little nic nak to finish off my sisters birthday present, I noticed these Jelly Belly candles and I thought that it would be a nice way to finish off the gift, given that everyone in my family loves candles. There is a huge variety of fragrances in this range all of which are sure to smell nice, but I opted for ' toasted marshmallows' tin since I absolutely adore this smell, and I was pretty sure my sister would as well.
These Jelly Belly candle tins are not cheap, and a small tin costs between £4 and £5, which is pretty costly given the size, but they do claim to be small in size but big on fragrance. THis candle comes with a lid, which I like as if it isn't used for a little while, it doesn't become a dust gatherer, like other open candles.
When the candle arrived, I opened the lid to have a sniff, and it really did smell divine, and sooo like the smell of toasted marshmallows you would have around a campfire. In fact, it is one of those smells you could smell again and again, and this is unfortunately/fortunately what swayed me, and I ended up keeping the candle for myself!! It never made it as a birthday present to my sister, and instead the very day I got the candle, I lit it in the evening, with the hope that the toasted marshmallow smell that was so strong and sweet in the tin, would fill our living room with the same, and we could enjoy the scent all evening. This was not so.
This candle claims to have a burning time of anything between 16 to 20 hours, and I have probably burnt it over a course of three nights for 9 hours, and there is probably just under half the candle wax left in the tin, which makes the burning time just about right in my experience. The candle was also easy to light and relight when used for a second time, and burnt well in the tin.
The big downside however comes with the lack of scent. It simply doesn't fill in the room with the same gorgeous scent that you get with the tin, unlike Yankee candles which do seem to give off the scent they claim. EVen burning for two or three hours in an evening did not create any kind of scent in the air that resembled toasted marshmallows, and I think for the price this was very disappointing, and in fact I am glad that I didn;t give this as a gift in the end, as it wasn't as good as I had hoped.
All in all, despite the lovely scent in the tin, this candle simply doesn't give out the toasted marshmallow scent when burning.
Summary: A disappointing candle for the price
