I love make toasted sandwiches. Cheese and ham being my favourite, but anything really! Chicken Bacon, corned beef.... You name it I will toast it!
**JML Toasta Bags **
I am aware that they have spelt Toaster incorrect, but they must have a reason for it even thought I don't know what it is!
These are little greaseproof brown paper bags that you can pop in the toaster (with the toast inside) to make quick, easy and mess-free toasted sandwiches. You create your sandwich as normal for example, ham cheese and tomato. You pop it into the bad and place in your toaster. After a few minutes you will have yourself a nicely perfected toastie! Any mess that may be made from the cheese or crumbs is left in the bag so you are ready to go. As well as sandwiches you can use them to heat up other fold snacks such as pasties, apple pies and samosas. Handy to have in the work draw for a quick lunch.
These bags can apparently last for up to 100 uses and can be wiped clean to get rid of any food residue. It also has a little handle at the top of the bag so you can get the bag out of the toaster without burning your fingers.
** What Are They Like To Use? **
The 'toasta' bags are really simple to use. Like I said before, I just made my sandwich and it was ready to go. The bags themselves are 18-16 centimetres, which means there were slightly longer then my little toaster. In some cases the bag and the sandwich will fit right in, but not in mine. I easily overcame this by taking the bag out, taking the toastie out and turning it around before sliding it back in the bag to toast the other side.
Apparently the bags can be used to cook everything from fish fingers to bacon, even beans! But I really don't see how. The whole point is that they make toasties and I just wouldn't risk using a toaster to cook anything else! Just my personal opinion but I wouldn't want to have to keep pressing down the toaster for half an hour hoping my fish fingers are warm! I would however, have pre-cooked food happily warmed up in a toastie. I have previously put leftover chicken and stuffing in two slices of bread and it came out perfectly as a toasted sandwich. A bit of the stuffing fell out in the bag but that's no hardship.
When using things like cheese or tomatoes it can get a little messy but the greaseproof bags work really well. Apparently they can be used 100 times. I am not sure they will last this long as after a few uses they do get a little battered, especially if you have a small toaster! The bags can be cleaned with soapy water and left to dry. This of course is much quicker than having to clean my grill that has been dripped over with melted cheese.
The 'toasta' bags are big enough to fit in a medium size sandwich. If you like your doorstops or layers and layers of filling you might find it a bit of a squeeze as the bags don't open very wide plus you then have to squeeze it into your toaster and think about getting it back out of the bag in one piece. You can experiment and you get used to the ways that you toaster works with the bag and what you can and cannot have for lunch!
**Price & Availability**
I bought these for £2.99 from Asda and this was for a 4 pack of Toasta bags. Not bad if you think you can get 100 uses out of each bag. That is 1p per use! A bargain considering a cheese toastie is £2.50 in the shop next to where I work! These JML toast bags can also be bought from Robert Dyas and a few places online. There are other brands available and I have seen some in my local pound shop that I will be giving a try very soon! They are also available on Amazon but at a more expensive price of £5.28!
** Recommendation **
I would recommend these to toasted sandwich lovers and people who are short of time and want a quick lunch or snack. They are also, in my opinion, a good way of saving money. Not only because its stops me popping to the local shop for lunch but also the amount of gas I save just by popping the electric toaster on for 3 minutes rather than the gas cooker for 15 minutes!
They do work and make perfect toasted sandwiches. Easy to clean although I doubt the 100 uses because of wear and tear. The ones I bought for the price were great value for money and handy to have in the kitchen drawer!
Summary: A way to make quick, easy and perfect Toasties!
