JML Toasta Bags
Advantages: Quck & Easy to use
Disadvantages: Can get hot, suggest never walking away while cooking
Are you fed up having to clean the toasty maker after every use? Or does your filling simply seem to ooze out of the back and make a mess of the place. These are two things that really annoy me about making toasties. I also hated the amount of time it took to prepare. I always had to butter both sides to make sure the toasty doesn't stick to the machine; this usually resulted in butter all over the counter top. All in all toasties are wonderful to have but can be a real hassle to make. The JML Toastabags are designed to give you all the luxury of a toasty without the painful preparation process.
Before you go out and purchase these, it's best to check something. The bags are made big enough to hold two slices of bread along with some filling, make sure that your toaster slot is wide enough to fit all the ingredients and the bag, otherwise you will be wasting your money.
The design of these is much like a miniature shopping bag. There is enough space to fit your average sandwich and the material covers the entirety of the sandwich. There is a small handle at the top; this is to allow you to take the toastabag out of the toaster once the product is ready. It shows that they designers really thought of everything as the contents inside the bag can become extremely hot, therefore it is essential that you use the handle, otherwise you are at great risk of burning yourself.
If you inspect the bags closely you can see how the material has been woven together. This is usually woven Teflon or maybe fibre glass threads. This makes the bag durable and is also what allows the bags to be re-usable.
EASE OF USE
The making of a toasty with these bags couldn't be simpler. Prepare a sandwich as if you were going to eat it cold and then place it into the toastabag. Put this into the toaster and push down the toaster button as per normal operation. Leave until the colour of your choice, some people may like it more toasted than others. Once ready take the toasty from the bag and eat. WARNING Contents and bag will be warm. The bag can be washed ready to be used again as required.
The end result is you have a nice toasty in a few minutes with almost minimum clean up required afterwards. Also the bag stops any contents of the sandwich falling down into the toaster.
Quick and easy to use
Re-usable - apparently up to 100 times but I have never used them enough to test this claim.
I would never walk away leaving the toasty to cook in the toaster, its best to keep an eye on it as it is highly likely that the toasting process will be a lot different when compared to normal toast. This is due to the bag and filling which will change the process and timing. This lesson was learned when one of the first toasties came out rather black and also burnt the bag a little, meaning it wasn't fit for re-use.
This is a more personal con, but I feel that it lacks the authenticity of a proper toasty. To me a toasty has to be all pressed together at the sides and along the middle, sealing in the ingredients inside. I enjoy taking them out, in their now triangular shape and having the crusty pressed bread on the edges and the pocket of filling in the middle. You just can't get that with a toastabag.
Overall they are convenient and easy to use, but doesn't compare to a proper toasty maker for me, and I think you should keep an extremely close eye on them while cooking.
Summary: Great for a quick toasty but can't beat the original
