JML Toasta Bags
Advantages: Good idea
Disadvantages: Doesn't work for me
This is a review of JML Toasta Bags which we were given as a gift by my mum a few years ago. She knew I liked the odd toasted sandwich so thought I'd like to try the bags out.
In addition to toasted sandwich, the bags can also be used to cook fish fingers, chicken nuggets, burgers, oven chips and even salmon fillets
The concept of the bags is great: no mess, no fuss and no extra gadgets taking up kitchen surface or cupboard space.
The reality of the bags is far from great. I really struggled to get my toaster to accept two slices of bread plus filling (cheese) in one toast slot. I think you needed to use really thin bread or a rolling pin on normal bread to reduce the width of the toasta bag.
I never really got any further with the toasta bags as I couldn't fit them in my (standard) toaster. I can't even begin to get my head around why anyone would want to cook salmon fillets in a toasta bag. They are so expensive, they need to be cooked properly in my opinion!
In between uses the bags can be washed in the dishwasher if you wish. Once I tried and failed with ours they sat in a drawer for ages before getting chucked away.
You can pick these up on Amazon for £2.25. I don't know how many you get in a pack for this. Ours came in a pack of two but as it was a gift I do not know how much they were.
My mum asked a while after giving us the bags how we had got on. "Not very well" I told her. Had she tried them? "Well no. We don't really like toasted sandwiches," she replied. I didn't want to sound ungrateful, but a few years later we purchased an electric Tesco Value Toasted Sandwich Maker for less than a fiver and I am pleased to say the odd toasted sandwich is now enjoyed in our house thanks to this machine, not thanks to the JML toasta bags!
Summary: A gift that didn't keep on giving!
