Advantages: Save space

Disadvantages: Quite expensive to start with.

These nylon storage bags save a great deal of space. I bought them to store winter bedding and woollies neatly in a limited space. My cupboards are certainly tidier and I now have spare space in them instead of having to squash everything in and close the door quickly before it all falls out.

All you have to do with these is to pack the bags full, seal them with the slider that does up the 'zip', and then attached your vacuum to them to suck out the air. The manufacturer says that you can gain a third more space by using these. However, I think it is probably more than that.

The nylon bags are very strong so they can be used over and over again and the sealing mechanism is strong and durable too. Apart from the space saving properties of these bags, they also keep whatever is in them perfectly dry and protected.

The JML Vacpacks are made of fine but strong nylon which totally locks out dirt and moisture, dust, and insects. They are transparent so you can easily find stuff in them and the best part of all is that because air is excluded from the bags, the stuff in them doesn't end up all creased. You can take it out and shake it and it's fine.

The first time I bought a product like this was from our local Pound Shop. The bags were some obscure foreign brand and cost me just £1 for a pack of three large sized ones, compared with £9.99 for 2 JML ones. At first I thought this was a bargain but the bags were made from plastic which wasn't very strong, the zip seal were difficult to close and kept bursting open and the valve for extracting the air seemed to let air back in from time to time. (I could hear it!)

So, don't be led to believe that the cheap ones are the same. I'm the first to grab a bargain, but in this case I think it would be better value to buy the quality product.

These VacPacks by JML are available in large and jumbo sizes. I found the large ones best for me because the jumbo ones can weigh quite a lot when they are full and they are difficult to handle.

Summary: Worth buying the quality ones of these.
