Advantages: low odour, great coverage, no mess
Disadvantages: none for us
I've been having a big clearout & been reorganising the house now that my youngest daughter has moved out to go to uni. My older daughter decided to help me out by buying some paint so we could do up the spare bedroom as a study & generously came back with some Johnstone's matt paint.
I've always been a Dulux woman but the sight of the Johnstone's logo on the tin (I'm calling it tin but it's actually a hard plastic) immediately brought memories back of when my late Mum used to religiously decorate the house every 2 years.
The container has a sturdy plastic handle & the well-sealed lid is easy to open yet no problem sealing tight after a paint session. The colour match on the front was very close to the actual paint & this particular one is suitable for walls & ceilings. The colour we decided on is called 'soft cream' which is similar to magnolia, the directions for use are well explained in words & pictures & the safety information is easy to read.
Coverage is approximately 32.5 square metres from this 2.5 litre container which cost around £12 & in my opinion it's worth every penny.
The paint itself is non-drip & low odour & was a pleasure to use as it didn't go gloopy or runny - the paint at the bottom was the same consistency as that on the top - it was a pleasure to use.
I'm not good with painrt rollers so my daughter did the walls whilst I did the fiddly bits (corners & around the windows) & we both agreed that it worked well both using a roller & different sizes of brushes. I needed to pop an extra coat on as we were covering a rather colourful wallpaper but it was worth the effort as the room looks so nice now, doesn't smell & looking at it in different lights there's no sign of the wallpaper!
The drying time for each coat is only 1-2 hours which means that this paint does the job quickly but effectively & I'll certainly use Johnstone's paint again - they've been making paint since 1890 so they must be doing something right!
I've got some paint left over so I wonder which room I can tackle next...........
Summary: a great paint
