Ok so it's Bank Holiday Monday as I write this. Bank holiday weekends eh? If you're not away at the inlaws out with the kids or watching crapola on TV, its a fair bet that you're doing a spot of DIY thats taken you a year to get going on or that you've been nagged into by your significant other. But here I am writing this opinion. Why? Coz I finished my DIY job yesterday! It's been a few months now since we finished decorating our living room - all that is except the flooring. What we wanted was for the same laminate flooring that was in our dining room to be extended into the lounge. However, finding the time to do it was a major problem though, so we put aside this bank holiday for just that. I prepared everything on Friday evening, popping over to B&Q to avoid the usual Changing Rooms hordes, after their pink and purple Llewellyn Bowen paints and their Handy Andy MDF. I thought I'd got it all sussed. Saturday morning we'd get going and by today we'd just about finish. I opted for the same laminate flooring that we used before, as it was a) relatively cheap and b) we'd made all the mistakes previously and we knew all the shortcuts. Unfortunately, all did not go according to plan... Saturday morning we started out with all good intentions, laying out the pieces and cutting the correct size. The one problem was that the pieces just WOULD NOT fit together. Hammer one piece in and glued pieces from another area fell out. Maybe it's the weather or something. Nothing like this happened last time. My patience wore just about as thin as you can get, and after about 4 hours and 10 attempts to lay the first 2 rows, it became obvious I was either going to have to try something different, or kill someone! As the latter was not really an option, we decided to call it a day. We'd have a go with the new clic loc product. So yesterday morning we did
exactly what I had wanted not to do and ventured out to DIYers holiday paradise. Click lock, for the uninitiated, is a clever little invention that just slots together without glue. It also means that you can take it back up again, and for the seriously sad, you could if you are REALLY tight, take it with you to your next house! It is however, about 80% more expensive at £22.49 rather than £13.00 per pack. I think you can only get it from B&Q. We replaced all the boxes we'd got left, fought through the masses and drove home - time 11.30 am. By 7.30 last night, we'd done it! Not a single gap, no bits unlocking themelves, no frayed nerves, and above all, not a single dead person. In short, an estimate 3 days work rolled into 8 hours. Click loc certainly gets my vote. It looks good, goes down like a dream (ooher perhaps I should rephrase that?) OK so it costs a lot more but I'd say its worth every penny. Who knows, maybe I'll make some of the extra money it cost back from this review!

- 17/10/01 Hi,
Good op. I am in the process of buying a flat and want laminate flooring. there is a really nice on ein B&Q which is quite dark with wide planks, and that snaps together. If you have had anyproblems with it, please add a thread to this, it would be interesting to see how it all worked out. Cheers |
