Advantages: clean, hygienic, looks nice
Disadvantages: dirty feet, aching feet, slippy furniture
I have laid laminate flooring in every room of my house except my bedroom (next on list) and the bathroom. It is quite easy to lay (needs two people) and gives the house a really clean feel. Even when the housework needs doing, it doesn't look too bad. It really is a must if you have children, as spills and accidents can be mopped up in seconds. The only problem we have encountered is that we all suffer from filthy feet! You can't really walk about in socks because it can be slippery, as can slippers. Also, because your feet take more of a pounding than on carpet, it can make your feet ache along the heel and arches. I would never go back to carpet because I cannot bear the thought of all those little creatures living in it! Just a quick swoosh over every evening keeps the floors looking really nice. However, do not clean floors with too much water - it can make the joints become oxidated and blacken them. It is also a great surface for kids and their toys - particularly toy cars! They can also lay on the floor, spreading themselves out to draw. Under the dining room table can be cleaned easily too - no more gravy stains on the shagpile! Another downside is that furniture can slip around a little - but just stick something on the sofa legs and you're away. Apparently, it also makes your home easier to sell as it gives the house a lovely 'neutral' feel. Go laminate today!

Hoping to move in the near future and I'll be having some of this ...... and probably fun doing some slipping and sliding too!?

- 07/09/02 I have a mixture, some laminate, some carpet. The carpet is certainly kinder to your feet. I find the laminate can be damaged quite easily also, for instance, if you drop a piece of cutlery it can make a dent. |

- 07/09/02 Welcome to Dooyoo ! British people must be the only people in the whole wide world to have carpet in their bathroom, on the stairs and everywhere. Glad to see it is changing :) Ingrid |
