My first experience of Lily-Flame candles was a couple of years ago when I received one as a gift and was really taken with it. Since then I have had the opportunity to sample more of these delightful candles, some of which have been given to me as gifts and some I have purchased myself.
Citrus Crush was one I purchased myself after spotting it on the Lily Flame website www.lily-flame.co.uk. I also spotted it in an online sale at BHS after Christmas but it was sold out. Therefore I ordered one directly from the website.
I must point out that apart from seeing these candles online on the website and also on Amazon, the only store I have personally seen them in stock is BHS, where I first spotted them in their Christmas gift shop last year, but have noticed they have continued to stock them all year round since then.
Apparently these candles are also available in store at branches of John Lewis as one of the ones I received as a gift was purchased there.
Prior to receiving one of these 'candles in a tin' I had never heard of Lily-Flame Candles and as I was so impressed with that first one I received a couple of years back, I looked them up online and was surprised to discover just how many different scented tins there were! Lily-Flame offered 42 different scented tins in the range at first and this has since grown. Indeed I have been spolit for choice each time I have looked at the website, as every single candle looks appealing and each one comes in its own unique and luxurious-looking embossed 7.7 x 6.6cm tin.
Lily-Flame was established in 1997 and all their candles are hand made in the heart of the Somerset countryside. They are now advertised as the UK's favourite scented candle manufacturer thanks to their eye catching designs and high quality ingredients used.
As well as these scented tins, Lily-Flame also produce a range of scented glassware, room mist sprays and reed diffusers.
Lily-Flame state that a lot of work goes into the preparation of their scented candles. They have many samples made up and then whittle them down to the very best ones using blind testing as well as burning tests, to judge which scent gives the best 'throw' (sending the scent into your room's atmosphere).
It is very difficult to choose a candle especially if you are indecisive like me as they all look so lovely I would like to try them all!
I settled on this as I love citrus scented candles and thought this would certainly be one I would love.
Citrus Crush comes in an attractive orange tin with gold embossed writing. Under its Cirtrus Crush title is written " lemons and tangerines" and this is another reason these charming little tins appeal to me as each one also has its own unique description inscribed underneath the name, with some of them being a description of the scent but with some having witty and amusing little descriptions also. Indeed these little touches added to the design, makes these candles so appealing before you even open the tin or light the wick.
On opening the tin I found an orange coloured wax inside and another appealing feature of these hand made candles are the raised wax triangles on the surface, which are usually a different colour to compliment the candle.
In this case these triangles are a creamy pale lemon coloured wax to compliment the lemon and tangerine scents.
Speaking of the scent, it was noticeable immediately when opening the tin and I was greeted with a strong, tangy, fruity fragrance which I would describe as orange with subtle notes of lemon, which blended together creates a gorgeous citrus scent.
Lily-Flame state this is "a candle to remind you that life is in the here and now - so let's go"! Quite apt really, as this is a very fresh revitalising fragrance and not the sort of fragrance you would associate with relaxing.
One of the things I like about these candles is when lit, their scent doesn't lose any of its strength and Citrus Crush was no different. After just five minutes I could detect the fruity scent appearing in my room.
Another thing which impresses me with these candles is considering they are small, they actually give off quite a powerful throw. The longevity of these candles is excellent and I have also found the scent lingers on in the room for quite some time after the flame is extinguished.
The burn time for these candles is approx 35 hours. I have found mine last around 3 weeks when lighting them for 2-3 hours every evening, which I think represents good value as you don't lose any of the strength of fragrance during that time either. Another sign of the good quality of these candles is that the wax burns evenly down the tin and you are not left with a hollow well in the centre, which happens with many candles.
I particularly like how these candles are in a tin and so I can take the candle with me when going away somewhere. I have taken these candles on short breaks away and even if I had already used it a little at home, it was easy just to pop the lid on and take it with me.
You can buy these candles direct from the Lily-Flame website at www.lily-flame.co.uk where they are priced at £8.50 each, but they are also available online from Amazon, Ebay and BHS. Look out for them also in branches of BHS and department stores.
