I was looking for a present for a friend when I came across the Lily Flame candle range.
Lily Flame candles are made in Somerset and they have an extensive range which includes candles in tins, room scents, reed diffusers and candles in glass containers. Lily Flame say they use the UK's best perfumers and then create lots of samples which they blind test and choose the best scent and the ones that send out the most aroma.
I love their range of candles in tins and the Fairy Dust is one of my favourites.
The candle is encased in a gold tin with a lid both of which have pale pink labels wrapped around and on top of the tin with the name of the candle in silver writing.
I think the Fairy Dust tin looks really pretty and is very girly which suits the actual fragrance of this candle. I plan to buy a few more of these and place them on my mantelpiece as I think they are very decorative.
The tin also has brief details on the company and burn time and their recommendations on how to burn the candle. More detailed directions and safety instructions are shown on the tin lid.
Lily Flame candles in tins all have decorative coloured triangular spikes placed around the candle which disappear as the candle burns down. My Fairy Dust candle is all burnt out but from memory they were different shades of pink and white on top of a pale pink candle.
What I love most about this candle is the scent which Lily Flame say is the scent fairies leave when the fly by. I am not sure about that but it is a very feminine soft powdery light sweet scent. It is difficult to pin point what the actual ingredients are as Lily Flame don't share them, but I think this is simply gorgeous. The scent smells very natural and I could imagine using this as a daytime perfume. A quality scent with no hint of any synthetic ingredients.
When you take the lid off the scent hits you and even when they are not lit if you leave the lids off you can catch the aroma as you walk past the candle. I think Fairy Dust is particularly suited to a bedroom as it is evocative of the mix of scents you get from your make up bag or handbag. If this was a powder scent you could imagine applying this with a large pink fluffy puff.
The candles burn really well, I just lit mine and it burned evenly down to the bottom. They recommend burning this for 3 hours to minimise the amount of wax on the side and say it will burn for 35 hours. I could not confirm the burn time, but it did seem to last for ages. The tins although quite small at less than 3 " high are fairly weighty at .24kg
This isn't an overpowering scent and I burn this in my dressing room (spare bedroom) when I am getting ready to go out or when I have a bath and the scent fills the room and lingers for quite a while, but doesn't fill the whole house. You get the scent even when the candle isn't lit every now and again as you walk past.
The other thing I like about the tins is that you can close the lid and hide the wick and candle when they start to look a little messy. Even without the lid the evidence of burning the candle isn't visible, so what I do is balance the candle on the lid when it isn't in use.
A very pretty scented candle in a decorative tin that is girly and feminine and provides a beautiful room scent that lingers but is not overpowering. I love the tins and keep them on display even after the candle has finished. Useful to store odds and ends as well when the candle is finished. Throws scent out even when not lit.
This is a quality candle that I feel is quite reasonably priced. RRP is around £8-£9 but you can get them cheaper if you shop around online. Available from John Lewis and Waitrose plus lots of independent shops.
A perfect girly gift but make sure you buy one for yourself as well.
