Okay I admit it - I'm a sucker for a nice posh candle especially at this time of year! I usually buy them, decide that they are too nice to light and just look at them or smell them every now and then...but not this candle. No, this candle I decided to actually burn for a change!

Unfortunately my budget does not stretch to the really pricey candles from Jo Malone (£37.19) or Diptyque (£35) and even if it did, there is no way that I'd be burning that amount of money... However in this year's January sales I came across a range of candles that I'd never heard of before called 'Lily-Flame' and as the candle was quite affordable and in the sale I decided to go ahead and purchase one thinking that it would make a good gift.

Well now December is here and my thoughts turned to how to make my home more Christmassy and I decided that instead of giving the candle away, I would use it myself...

The candle is presented in an attractive tin (as shown above), which is a pale orange colour with metallic orangey/red embossed font. The lettering and style of the packaging is quite contemporary, which I think would appeal to most consumers. The tin has certain information on the back of it including the approximate burn time that you can expect from your candle (35 hours), company contact details and also informs you that the candle has been handmade in the 'heart of Somerset'.

When you open the lid, you can see the candle in the tin. The candle isn't overly large, so only has one wick in the centre of the wax. The candle was a creamy orange colour with 4 wax shapes, which were in a contrasting darker orange and pink colour and were scattered around the wick. On the inside of the lid are the usual directions for use.

As you can probably tell from the fragrance (Festive Cheer), this candle is one of Lily-Flames' seasonal offerings. According to the tin this candle smells of Chocolates, Gingerbread, Tangerines and Nuts. However I have to say that I think that it smells of tangerines and cloves, although I suppose that this could be the spicy gingerbread coming through. The aroma from the candle is quite strong, but I am pleased to say that it isn't overpowering at all when burning! It does give off a nice amount of scent and makes the room smell nice, without being over the top.

I am about 12 hours into using this candle now and am really pleased with my purchase. You can tell from the scent and look of the candle that this is a quality item and I am really pleased that I kept it for myself! I found it very easy to relight and now that the little coloured wax segments have melted, the wax is a slightly darker orange colour but is still appealing to look at. I found that the wax melted evenly and smoothly without giving off any smoke.
