Yankee Candle Midsummers Night
Advantages: Attractive, nice fragrance.
Disadvantages: Didn't last long, fragrance quite weak.
I am quite a fan of these wax tarts from Yankee Candles, as I believe they offer good value for money priced at between 99p - £1.20 each and I enjoy sampling the different scents from the large range available. They are the ideal way to sample a particular Yankee scent without paying a lot of money to do so. The larger glass jar candles may look pretty but they are expensive and if you paid out that money and discovered you didn't like the scent, then you'd be left thinking you had wasted your money. Therefore buying these wax tarts or votive candles are in my opinion the better option.
My daughter bought me this Midsummer's Night wax tart recently as part of my birthday presents from her. She knew it was one which I had yet to try and thought it would be one which would appeal to me. And she was right, as I liked everything about it upon receiving it... the black coloured wax, the masculine scent and the picture of a dark night sky and full moon on the label. To look at, it certainly ticked all the right boxes with me, but the real verdict can only come after you have used the waxt tart, as I have found that the strength of fragrance and longevity of these wax tarts varies from candle to candle.
Yankee state you can expect to achieve up to 8 hours of fragrance from a wax tart and I have found that often this is true and at times I have experienced over 8 hours which is a bonus. Sadly however, there have been one or two scented wax tarts I have been disappointed with and have found the scent wasn't very strong or it only lasted around 3 hours. I did think on sniffing my Midsummer's Night wax tart through its wrapping that this would be one which would last well, as it has a woody, masculine fragrance which reminds you of a man's aftershave and bearing in mind that so far my experience of these types of scented wax tarts have all been good, I had high hopes for this one.
Unfortunately, I am sorry to report that I am left feeling disappointed by Midsummer's Night. Its initial appeal quickly vanished when I came to use it.
I placed the tart in the well of my burner after unwrapping it and lit a tealight to place underneath. Now usually within four or five minutes you can begin to detect the scent from the tart as it begins to melt, but it was more or less double this time before I began to detect the fragrance being released.
I was then disappointed by the strength of the fragrance and its longevity. Whilst it is fair to say I could smell the scent in the room, it was considerably weaker than many of the other wax tarts I have sampled.
The fragrance didn't hang in the air after the tealight had burned out either, it just disappeared immediately.
I also found that I experienced only 3-4 hours of fragrance from this wax tart and then I could no longer smell any fragrance coming from it whatsoever. Very disappointing when you consider there are other wax tarts available such as Soft Blanket, Evening Air or Drift Away for example, which have exceeded the 8 hours burn time and have long-lasting fragrance which hangs in the air for ages after use and also fills your home with their scent.
Overall despite Midsummer's Night being very attractive to look at, it failed to live up to the standard I expect from Yankee. I wouldn't purchase this one again as there are far better scented wax tarts available.
Summary: Doesn't live up to the quality of other Yankee candles.
