Yankee Candle Midsummers Night
Advantages: Nice strong smell, more masculine than some of the candles
Disadvantages: The smell wont appeal to everyone
I am not obsessed with Yankee candles like the majority of people seem to be but I do have a few. As I am a smoker I do like to have some scented candles around to try and take away the smell of smoke from the house as it can cling to curtains, furniture etc. I find that if I burn a candle when I am smoking it does help to neutralise the smoke and the fragrance from the candle also helps to keep the house smelling fresh and stop my house smelling like an opium den.
Midsummer Night is a candle that I bought on a whim when I was shopping in town because I liked the smell and the colour of the candle also appealed to me. The candle is a black colour and looks a lot more masculine than some of the other Yankee candles. The fragrance is also one of the more masculine ones in the range and isn't fruity or too flowery smelling.
I'm not really sure what midsummer smells like but to be honest I doubt that it smells like this. The candle doesn't smell summery to me at all and it contains musk, patchouli, sage and mahogany. These combine to give the candle a somewhat masculine aftershave smell to it. For me this is something that I like but I doubt very much it would appeal to everyone. It is very musky with a slight sweetness to it which does take away from the strong muskiness.
The strength of the candle is also really good and it completely fills a room with its fragrance. There is nothing insipid about it and when it is burning you can definitely tell. For me this is exactly what I wanted and it does the job of both disguising the smell of smoke and also helping to neutralise it and after this has been burning it is the dominant smell in my living room and I find it difficult to even smell the smoke afterwards.
I bought this as a housewarmer jar and it cost me £15.99. I do find that this is expensive for a candle but it is really good quality and it burns for absolutely ages. Yankee say that the jar should burn for approximately 90 hours and although I didn't count it I know it lasted me for weeks. As it was strong and fragrant I also didn't need to burn the candle for hours at a time and half an hour or so at a time was more than enough for it to permeate the room and leave it scented and fragranced.
I would definitely recommend this candle to people who are wanting something that is going to fragrance their rooms but not leave them smelling of fruit, food or ladies perfume. It is a good candle for men as it doesn't leave the house smelling feminine and of perfume and instead just leaves behind a strong masculine scent which is really nice and one that I actually like to smell.
