Advantages: Cuts through grease, Anti bacterial
Disadvantages: Expensive
We've all seen the Advert..you know the one, wimpy guy whizzing around the kitchen, flexing his imaginary muscles, wielding his trusty squirty thing..minutes later and 'voila'..sparkling clean kitchen and the slogan "Mr Muscle Loves the jobs you hate"..Hmmm..I don' think Mr Muscle is going to be much good with the ironing..or the gardening come to that, however the kitchen is another matter !!
Mr Muscle products are made by the long established S C Johnson, this company has been making products, which they claim to make the average consumer's life easier, for 115 years, as far as I am concerned, the Mr Muscle range is definitely a testament to that statement !
Now, I am not a great cook, in fact I can't cook for toffee, I can't even cook baked beans !!! If anyone walks into my home nearing dinner time, they are unlikely to say "Mmmm something smells nice"..More like.." Errrr something smells..errr interesting !" Which basically translated means "What are you burning for dinner today"..small wonder my other half prefers salads ! Of course burning food leaves a mess, all my saucepans boil over leaving a lovely mess on my hob, and as for the inside of the oven !! I have always bought stores own brand cleaning products, which has proved to be a false economy and normally involves a lot of elbow grease, until Mr Muscle came to my rescue !
At £1.80 for a 500ml bottle (from most good supermarkets) this is not a cheap option, however the cleaning power really is, in my opinion, exceptional.I use the Lemon 'flavour' although the plain one is just as effective. You can't miss the bottle on the shelves, it is bright yellow with a green label and states on the front that it is 'Anti-bacterial' therefore killing bacteria whilst dissolving grease and gunk. Reading all the bumpf on the back, it claims to tackle grease and tough stains effectively leaving your kitchen sparkling clean and smelling of lemons...Mmmmmm. It is recommended for use on Cooker Tops, Sinks and Tiles, and kitchen work surfaces. To be honest I have also tried this on the inside of my oven and the grill and the results exceeded my own expectations.
There are the usual warnings, such as keep out of reach of children, avoid eyes, avoid prolonged skin contact, wash hands after use etc, but the print is rather small,..when I first read them I was somewhat perplexed to see that you should not use them on ' Gold plated fillings'..Oooerr..then when I put my reading glasses on I realised it actually said fittings..Ahhh !
This product is very simple to use..simply rotate the orange nozzle to 'on', spray directly onto the surface that needs cleaning and wipe away with a damp cloth !! For more stubborn stains they recommend you leave for approximately 30 seconds before wiping. You should avoid leaving for any length of time on wooden surfaces, painted surfaces, lacquered or soft, porous surfaces, but note this does not mean you cannot use it on them at all, indeed I use it on most surfaces in the house with good results, you just have to remember to wipe it off straight away. I also use it in the bathroom to good effect.
The spray comes out as a clear liquid with a slight foaming action, but I guess you really want to know 'Does it Work ?"......the answer is a resounding "Yes !!" This is surprising as the product contains no added bleach, I simply follow the instructions and wipe clean, and I mean clean, it really only takes seconds to have a gleaming microwave, sparkling hob and I even use it on my tiled floor, it leaves no residue whatsoever, does not leave any surfaces slippery and leaves the kitchen smelling lovely, I am not so sure that you could really call the smell 'Lemony' in particular, but it is a pleasant, almost floral smell, and it lingers for hours afterwards.
All in all I will have to give this 10 out of 10, for stubborn stains, such as burnt on food on the hob, I simply leave for about a minute, (30 seconds longer than actually recommended) and simply wipe off leaving no trace of grime whatsoever. I was sceptical about the claim it can remove long standing grease stains, but when I used it on my splashbacks I was pleasantly surprised to see that it really did cut through the grease with ease !!!
Overall this product lasts me approximately 4-5 weeks, but remember I actually use it everywhere, including the toilet ! I have since cut down the amount of time I used to spend on scrubbing the kitchen, leaving more 'Me' time, which I am sure other working Mums will appreciate !
So if you really want to cut down on the elbow grease, have sparkling, fresh smelling and bacteria free surfaces I would thoroughly recommend using this.
Oh and one other thing, I have discovered that it also kills pests such as wasps and ants...a truly universal product !!!
