Advantages: Saves time and money
Disadvantages: Can be hazardous to your health
I was cleaning my kitchen yesterday,i looked in the oven and thought O my god what a disgrace. I have had my oven for almost 2 years and i had never cleaned it out. Its just one of them things that i have never done. But this time i opened it and thought i could never let anyone look in my cooker and see that. There was thick grease all around it . Mainly on the bottom where there was burnt chips and things i couldn't even recognise anymore.
So yesterday i took myself off to morrisons and looked for an oven cleaner. I remember my friend saying she had tried all different kinds of oven cleaners like fairy power spray and cillit bang which were both extremely expensive. She said that she had used Mr Muscle oven cleaner so i thought i would try that. After looking through all the different oven cleaners on the shelves i reached for the Mr muscle.
It comes in a very bright green and orange aerosol can with the words Mr Muscle loves the jobs you hate oven written on the front. That certainly is true in my case i hate cleaning and i will try anything that makes the job easier. It is made by Johnson's a family company . I never realised how many products were made by this company.
So i picked up the bottle and went to the checkout. £1.85. Thats not too bad, I could have paid alot more for something that never worked. When i got home i had every intention of cleaning the oven. But i got a bit sidetracked (as you do) So it never got done. This morning i woke up and saw the can still sitting on the work top were i had left it. Sod it i thought i will give it a go. I looked at the can and read the writing on the front . It said Powerful cleaning product , read back label before use. so i did.
* For best results and to avoid drying out which can result in white residue
- use on a cold oven
- Simply apply leave for between 30 minutes up to a maximum of 2 hours
- DO NOT LEAVE OVERNIGHT
- Wipe thoroughly
Right i thought lets do it before i get "sidetracked" again. I put on my rubber gloves and away i go. I shook the can and took of the lid the nozzle is like a cheap hairspay bottles nozzle..( a little white cap). Ready hold can upright and spray 9 - 12 inches from oven walls. Right i do this. as I'm spraying the "product" starts to turn to foam. Instantly i can see the foam turning brown as its starting to work. Right close the door and relax for half an hour.
So after I've sat and had a read and rate of some reviews on dooyoo i decided the time has come for the messy bit. I open the door and am totally suprised at the grease that you can see in the foam. It says on the tin DO NOT BREATHE IN SPRAY. But how can you avoid this when you've got your head stuck in an oven. All i need now is for one of the kids to come and turn the nobs while I'm in it.
I start to wipe away the foam starting from the top and working my way down. Suprisingly i find this very easy. No scrubbing. It just wiped away my cloth was covered in brown grease though which was the down side, but if i hadn't let it get so dirty it would'nt have been this bad. after about 10 minutes of wiping and rinsing i am finally finished. I stand back to look at my oven and it is as clean as the day i bought it. ( well not quite, but nearly).
I am very proud of myself to have such a clean oven, and with this spray i might do it more often as i have over 3/4 of it left out of a 300ml can . It does say on it that it is extremely Flammable which for an oven cleaner completely baffles me, and also you do have to wear oven gloves as it is irritant. And it can also be hazardous if you inhale it. But this spray is well worth the money and at that price i won't grumble.
I would recommend this product to anyone like me who likes saving a bit of time and money and effort. And it also has a home care advice and help line number on the can if you need advice on cleaning your oven..lol. And i have now just sprayed it on my George foreman grill to see if it works...and it does...
Thanks for reading
Lynsey xx
Summary: I have a clea oven...yippeeeee
