Advantages: A good hard working oven cleaner

Disadvantages: no major ones

A few months ago we went to babysit for our godchild, this is a pleasure as much as anything.
His Mum is always busy, she holds down a part time job as well as looking after her family. During a telephone conversation she had let it slip that she was trying to find a small company or an individual who would clean her oven for a reasonable charge.
Well LOL I couldn't really believe my ears! who on earth would have enough money to pay someone to clean their oven.
Before I knew it I had opened my orifice and put my size 8`s right in it, never volunteer!
Cheryl (owner of the dirty oven) said it might need dynamite to lift some of the grease, I laughed and smugly said I thought a good pot scourer would be sufficient. ( I will never learn)
I really don't know what made me do it...I had never bought anything remotely resembling an oven cleaner before, but as I passed the cleaning aisle in Tesco I reached for the can of Mr Muscle and at the grand price of £1.83 there wasn't a lot to be lost.
But I wondered about my psychic powers when I saw the state of that oven!

Hubby said he would get the little one off to bed if I wanted to get on with the dirty deed, but to be frank I felt a little apprehensive about using any oven cleaning chemical with a toddler around, so I waited until he was settled into bed for the night.

The instructions on the Mr Muscle can were as follows... cover all of the surrounding areas and protect the floor and adjoining work surfaces, put on a pair of rubber gloves, switch off the power supply (if you have gas then turn off the pilot light).
For ease of application remove the oven racks to spray, use the spray on the inside of the oven but don't cover the heating element, the oven trim or the pilot light area.
I was feeling less than confident by the time I had read the list of instructions, but in my book a promise is a promise.
I opened the kitchen window wide and took the oven racks out onto the patio to spray them. After shaking the can well I directed the spray inside of the cold oven coating it well in the foul smelling frothy spray, making sure that the glass door was well sprayed.
If there was an Olympic medal for dirty ovens this would be a Gold (Sorry Cheryl x)
I had to leave it for about 30 minutes to have a good soak in, so I passed the time with a cuppa and a biccy.

The worst affected part was the bottom of the oven and I wanted to see what Mr Muscle was capable of, I rinsed off the frothy residue and then gave it another wash over for good measure, when you aren't used to using chemicals it makes you extra careful. The oven bottom was better, by no means perfect, but better. At least you could have semi -opened the door and not have worried if anyone was looking!
The glass door was a different matter, it sparkled, Mr Muscle had really worked wonders on that, so full marks for that part.
When I went out to the patio to get the oven racks I couldn't believe my eyes! the chemicals in Mr Muscle had semi cleaned the racks but had partially cleaned the paving slabs too!
The patio had a kind of `camouflage` effect, WOW who would have thought that the spray had that kind of power inside of it.
The racks washed off well, granted they needed an extra rub with the wire wool but the end result was good.

Well Mr Muscle, your cleaning power is reasonably good and should I have investigated your instructions further I would have noticed the small print says `Do not use outdoors` so maybe the chemicals react differently with air conditions.
Always use on a cold oven and never use on a self cleaning oven.
Be very careful not to get the spray on your skin, if you do then rinse it off quickly using plenty of water.
Never use the spray near heat or flame. Be extra vigilant when disposing of the can and at all times keep the can out of the reach of children.

If the stubborn stains persist? repeat the process.
I'm sorry but three hours down the line another session was out of the question!
Cheryl`s oven was a thousand times cleaner than it was, that was good enough.
The patio slabs? Oh well we all make mistakes...To Err Is Human...

Anyone need a patio cleaned? ..reasonable rates

Summary: A good hard working oven cleaner.

Loved your review but it still hasn't inspired me to tackle my oven.
