Advantages: Easy, effective.
Disadvantages: Chemical and smells vile.
There is nothing worse then something slowing festering away at the bottom of your oven, some unidentifiable substance that seems almost prehistoric burning into little globs of oily crispness....Yuck!
For the record several people use the oven in my house, so it goes without saying that when you have several sweet tooth's trying out various concoctions (ok lets be honest culinary experiments/disasters) there is bound to be a back lash.
I have tried scraping stuff out with a spatula, but there is still the stickyness so I always turn to Mr. Muscle in situations like these.
To be honest he is a last resort, not because I like to think of myself as physically stronger then a cleaning agent, but rather the smell...
I find that it is almost impossible to use the oven for a few days afterward the smell is so strong (VILE).
First lets go over how to use it and its effect.
Warnings (why I use it as a last resort)
Mr Muscle comes with a child safe top meaning you have to press it firmly at the sides in order to remove. ALWAYS keep the top on if you have children in the house as this is a very dangerous substance.
There are three routes of entry into the body Inhalation, Skin contact Ingestion and Eye contact. listed below are some of the hazards.
If inhaled - Irritation and corrosive effects to nose, throat and respiratory tract.
If in contact with eyes - May cause permanent damage including blindness.
If ingested - May cause burns to mouth, throat, and stomach.
If in contact with skin -Corrosive. May cause permanent damage.
Pretty scary stuff, don't you think? So make sure there are no kids around and use gloves!
Directions:
Make sure you use it on a cold oven, with all lights turned off. Using gloves shake the canister well and then point and spray at a safe distance from yourself. Leave inside oven for 30min- 2 hours depending on how dirty your oven is. then wipe with rag, and air out oven.
These are the formal instructions, I find that when I spray the can the foam comes out very creamy, I have to use allot of it in order to cover the whole oven, as I don't want to spread it with my hands. As time wears on it deflates to thin streaks. The smell is VERY strong and chemical, I find that it can take 24 hours to get rid of the smell, I wouldn't recommend cooking during that time, as the smell could seriously affect your food.
It also makes me feel very light headed, and I usually hold my breath while I use it.
After the required time I wipe my oven and the oven is remarkably clean, it cleans almost every grease spot there was, and I have to say it makes it look easy. I just wipe off all the dirt and make sure to use gloves while I do so. Years of grime slide off like butter off a hot knife, gorgeous!
I am sold on this product, but due to the chemical harshness I try to use it only when unavoidable.
Summary: A last resort, but oh so effective!
