Advantages: Sparkling shower doors, lovely smell, great price, easy to use
Disadvantages: I haven't found any yet!
We have recently purchased a new house (well new to us, it was built in 1896!) and we are trying hard to sell the old one.
Obviously I want to try and keep everything looking as clean and tidy as possible as I never know when someone is going to want to view - I should be so lucky!
One place that was always a bit grubby was the shower until my hero came along. I read KenJohn's review on Mr. Muscle Shower Shine. By the way the expression my hero is directed at Ken not Mr. Muscle!
We have a power shower encased in a small shower cabinet with curved doors. I occasionally fetch the whole thing to pieces and give it a really good clean with Cif, but keeping it clean was a problem. The main problem is the build up of soap scum. Even though I always get the shower and wash the inside of the doors down when I have finished my shower it still gradually builds up and takes the shine off the doors.
I have tried one or two of the propriety shower cleaners but never had much success with them so I was a bit dubious when I read Ken's review. However he seemed so enthusiastic about the product and I generally trust his reviews I decided to try Mr. Muscle Shower Shine.
The label on the front of the container stated 'never scrub again!', now that sounds good to me!
If you then turn the bottle over and read through the liquid to the back of the label it tells you that 'Shower shine's formula cleans by PREVENTING BUILD UP of limescale, soap scum and grime so avoiding the need to scrub clean. Effective for use on most shower surfaces including fibreglass, porcelain, chrome, tiles, glass, plastics, acrylics, enamel and shower curtains.' I figured that this sounded just was I was after AND it was on offer! A 500ml bottle usually costs £1.27 from Tesco, but at the time I bought it the cost was just £1.
The cleaner comes in a transparent plastic bottle with a trigger top. It has a square end on the trigger which twists through ninety degrees to an 'on' or 'off' position.
The directions on the bottle state 'Start with a clean shower. Immediately after showering, spray a light mist of Shower Shine over the wet surfaces, including the curtain and door. Do not scrub, rinse or wipe off.' It also promises that 'Daily use means that you will never have to scrub again.'
I will just say here that it does say 'Start with a clean shower', now mine wasn't too bad so I thought it would be OK. My first use of the product was a disappointment because of this! So I decided to do it properly and I set to and cleaned the doors with Cif to get them to a sparkling start.
Next morning I had my shower, washed the doors with water as I usually do and then got my Mr. Muscle Shower Shine.
It was a bit difficult to get far enough back to spray a 'light mist' as our shower cabinet isn't very big but with a bit of practice I managed. I sprayed it all over the shower cabinet and then got out and closed the doors behind me. It is that easy, honestly!
At this point I was still a bit dubious as the spray was gradually running down the inside of the shower doors and the idea that it would leave a clear sparkling surface with no further intervention from me didn't quite ring true somehow.
Anyway I forgot all about the shower and went about my daily chores until such time as I needed to go to the toilet - the one in the same room as the shower obviously!
The first thing that I noticed in the bathroom was the lovely smell. It smelt fresh, clean, light and flowery. At first I didn't realise what it was but then it dawned on me that it was the shower spray.
I turned to look at the shower cubicle and was amazed at what I saw. The doors were clear, clean and sparkling with no streaks or marks.
I have used it every day since and the first bottle has lasted about a fortnight but in my opinion it is well worth the money!
Having looked at the bottle I have noticed that it does warn not to breathe in the mist and to use in a ventilated area. I do always leave the door to the bathroom open when I am in the shower (there's only me and hubby here) but I did stand in the cubicle with the doors closed as I sprayed the shower shine.
It also warns not to use the product on worn, damaged or cracked surfaces, gold-plated fittings, brass, natural marble, finished wooden surfaces or resurfaced enamel.
It is made by
SC Johnson (a family company!) Camberley GU16 7AJ
In conclusion I am extremely impressed with this product and have already been back to Tesco whilst the offer is on and bought another 4 at £1 each!
This review has also been published on Ciao.
Summary: A great shower cleaner!
