Advantages: Does what it says on the bottle

Disadvantages: Not a lot!

Cleaning windows. There's a simple two words designed to strike loathing into the hearts of most folks. Along with cutting the grass, it's a job most people detest with a passion, which I suppose is why lots of folks pay a window cleaner to do the job for them.

I've never being a person noted for handing out readies for a job I can easily do myself. (And better than any window cleaner!) In fact, I don't really mind cleaning the windows, although I wouldn't go so far as to say I actually enjoy it. My approved method is lots of hot soapy water, (any decent brand of washing up liquid will do) a soft headed brush for applying the said soapy water, then swish it off the glass with a squeegee and a wipe down with a good soft chamois leather. The result is glass you wouldn't even realize was there!

But sometimes there are wee glass cleaning jobs that simply don't merit the hassle of dragging out all the paraphernalia involved, and this is when Mr. Muscle Window Cleaner comes into its own.

One job I use it for on a daily basis is to clean the glass that I use in my small part-time picture framing business. I run a small eBay shop selling fine art prints and wee oil paintings, as well as doing a bit of work for a number of local businesses, pubs, interior designers, local art groups, and golf clubs.

One thing that is vital is that the glass you use in a picture frame is totally clean, streak free, and crystal clear on both sides, otherwise it won't be long before you start getting customer complaints and expensive returns. The most commonly used glass in framing pictures is called 2mm float, and I buy this in fairly large sheets which I then cut to size. When it's delivered, the glass is usually coated in a very light sheen of oil, and I then use a glass cutter lubricated in oil to cut it to the various sizes I require. This means the glass is then covered in a fair amount of oil, as well as the fingerprints you unavoidably put on it with constant handling.

I've tried all sorts of liquid spray-on glass cleaner over the years, including the likes of "Windolene" (bloo*y awful stuff!) and even *VERY* expensive professional glass cleaner (can't remember the brand) recommended to me by the company that supply me with the wood for my frames. I can honestly say that none of them come even close to doing the cracking job that Mr. Muscle Window Cleaner achieves. One or two little squirts from the handy spray-on plastic bottle, then a good vigourous rub with a clean soft cloth, and the job is done to my complete satisfaction. (More importantly, it's also done to my customer's satisfaction!)

Another job I use Mr. Muscle for almost daily is to clean the windows in my taxi. It's a strange thing. The rest of your car can be completely filthy, but so long as the window glass is sparkling and clean, the customer's (and yourself) will have the illusion that the *WHOLE* car is spotless!

Obviously, being a taxi and getting heavy use, the window glass has the tendency to get absolutely manky with all sorts from fingerprints, road dirt, sticky sweetie debris from kid's fingers, you name it! I keep a bottle of Mr. Muscle in the boot, and it's a simple five minute job to quickly bring both the interior and exterior glass back to pristine condition, usually when I'm sat on the rank at the airport waiting for my next fare.

Of course, it comes in handy around the house for little jobs like mirrors, glass topped tables, and interior windows. It's excellent for cleaning the white aluminium door and window frames as well. I can't really testify to its efficacy in cleaning large picture windows, as I never use it for this, but would imagine it would do its usual good job. (Although it might take you a while!)

Oh, and you don't *HAVE* to wear gloves to protect your hands, as it doesn't appear to be corrosive enough to damage skin. I usually do wear an old glove when I'm using it mind you, as it saves your hands and fingernails from getting filthy.

I buy my Mr.Muscle in our local supermarket for Euro 2.04 for a large 500ml clear plastic spray-on bottle which lasts me for months. In my opinion it's simply the best of the proprietary brands of window cleaner.

Summary: Inexpensive and effective window cleaner. Best of the proprietary brands.
