Advantages: very effective cleaner
Disadvantages: very little aroma
We have recently had some laminate flooring put down in our hallway, mainly because with two small children I thought it would be easier to keep clean than carpet. In theory, I guess it is, but I have been surprised how easily it does stain especially with muddy little footprints - and it doesn't seem to matter how much you tell them to clean their feet! It was for this reason that I was on the look out for a suitable floor cleaner. I came across the Mr Sheen which says that it cares, shines and cleans wood and laminate and thought I would give it a try!
It comes as a spray and it says it has a smell of oranges. The directions tell you to first sweep or vacuum the area of floor that you want to clean. Once you have done that you then just spray directly onto the floor and then wipe it clean with a damp cloth or mop. It does have a twisting nozzle so you won't leave it on and spray anything inadvertently. Also, as you are spraying directly on the floor there is no need for a bucket or any messy water!
When I first used this product I thought I would just spray on the aforementioned stains and use a cloth to wipe these. However, it's just as easy to spray over a larger area and use my squeezy mop to clean it. I was really impressed at how easily and effortlessly all the marks and stains came away and how clean my floor looked within a couple of seconds! It was very impressive and I was highly delighted. Also there are no smears or residue from the liquid left on the floor and it seemed to dry within seconds so ther was no need to worry about people stepping on it whilst it was still wet.
I am very happy with the cleaning power of this spray but I was a bit disappointed with the smell. I was expecting a lovely lingering citrus smell but I have to say I can hardly smell anything at all. (OK, I admit I do have a bit of a cold but normally the smell of oranges is quite strong and aromatic so I should be able to smell it!) This is a small grumble though as I would definitely rather have something that cleans and a nice smell would just be a bonus.
It is suitable for many surfaces and there is quite a long list on the bottle. These include sealed wood flooring, linoleum, vinyl, ceramic tiles, painted wood, doors and kitchen units. Having read this I tried it on a rather dirty kitchen unit door and it worked pretty well but I had to put in a bit more effort than when I was cleaning the floor. Also, just a small word of warning - it does suggest you just try this spray out on a small inconspicuous area 24 hours before you use it on your whole floor - just in case!
You can buy a 500 ml spray from Sainsburys for only £1.94. As you hardly need to spray any each time you use this - it should last a very long time which at that price makes it very good value!
Summary: A very effective floor cleaner!

- 04/06/08 I don't think you should put any spray like this on laminate flooring. It stains! Yes I like this stuff. Well reviewed. ~ |
