Mr T Hot Water Bottle Cover
Advantages: Easy to fill and a great retro design
Disadvantages: Material a bit too thin and fading of the pucture
I feel a bit sorry for my bloke sometimes living in an all female household, even the cat is a girl. During the cold snap last winter me and my girls were cuddled up on the couch watching films. We were all wearing warm pyjamas, fluffy slippers and cuddling our hot water bottles. Lovely and snug. My hot water bottle is pink whilst my daughters have girlie hot water bottles with their favourite tv characters on. I joked that my partner should get a hot water bottle too, but he is a blokie bloke and said hot water bottles are for girls. A few weeks before Christmas I set about proving him wrong and buying him a blokie hot water bottle as a joke present (that I suspected he would secretly like and use).
It took quiet a bit of searching online as to be honest hot water bottles are more geared towards females. Then I came across this Mr T Hot Water Bottle cover and thought it was just what I was looking for. I mean, you can't get more blokie than Mr T, right?
When I bought this last year I could only find this at funkyhampers.com, I think I paid around £10.00 at the time. A quick look online shows that funkyhampers have them for £7.00 (excluding postage). They are currently available on Amazon for £5.99 (delivery is an additional £4.08). These prices are for the hot water bottle cover only and do not include the hot water bottle.
The hot water bottle cover was dispatched and I received it within a few days of placing my order. It arrived in a plastic bag but had no other packaging, which was a bit of a disappointment.
The cover is blue with a classic picture of Mr T pointing. The writing around it says "Shut up fool...& Keep me warm" in bold black lettering with a yellow outline. The background to the picture is red with yellow stars. Not girlie in the slightest!
The hot water bottle is inserted throught the bottom of the cover and there is a zip to keep it inside. No velcro here, Zips are far more manly! During its use we have had no problems with the zip. The hot water bottle can be filled without removing the bottle from the cover as the top is not covered. I find this is very handy and makes filling quick and convenient.
The material is actually quiet thin and does not do a huge amount in stopping the bottle being too warm against skin which is something to keep in mind. In my opinion it could do with being slightly thicker, but it never seemed to bother my bloke.
On the label it states that the cover is machine washable, however I have only ever hand washed it. I was worried that it would be damaged in the wash. Furthermore, not long after using it the picture on the front did seem to fade slightly and I had the feeling the picture may be ruined in the machine. Although I am not 100% sure that this would happen, I just prefer not to take the chance with it.
My partner seemed fairly amused by this gift and used it quiet a lot during the winter. I recently pulled out our hot water bottles again now it is getting colder but my partner has yet to use his this year. That being said he refuses to believe it is even cold yet whilst I am constantly freezing, but thats a different story.
I would certainly recommend this hot water bottle cover. It has a great retro design and is very fun. I think it would make a great present for most men.
Summary: Mr T, whats not to like?
