Advantages: Does the job well

Disadvantages: Strong smell, varying price

I have recently decided that my life would be incomplete without the gorgeous Persian cross tabby kitten that I saw in my local pet shop.

Taking my bundle of fluff home I was sure he would settle in without any problems...how wrong could I be!?!

Dude (the kids named him), has decided to be offended by the litter tray and would rather poop behind the sofa or the television and I have therefore had problems with nasty whiffs that I really wanted to get rid of.

I went on the hunt for something to use either directly on the affected areas or something that would do a job of getting rid of the general smell around the house. I vaguely remember my grandmother using something called Neutradol as it didn't just cover the smell it was something clever that actually got rid of the odour.

Seeing the blue and white box with Neutradol written on it I decided to give it a go. The type I bought was a gel odour destroyer which is a small round pot full of blue gel, it claims to last 90 days, I have had it for about a month (the cat still not using the litter tray more than 60% of the time!) and it's still going strong.

The pot itself is white plastic and has a lattice top so you can see but not touch the gel. It is not a very pretty pot, but as it says to keep away from pets and children I have to hide it in a high up place anyway, so looks is not important for me!

I bought mine from Tesco I think for around £1.50 but have since seen them for about 80p in places like Wilkinsons so it's worth looking around for the best price, I will be buying mine in Wilko's in future!

It's quite difficult to describe the smell of this product, if you have ever smelt it you would recognise it straight away, it's certainly the same smell I remember from my grandmothers house from years ago! When you first open it, which involves peeling off a foil seal, the smell is a little overpowering; it's a clean smell but quite a chemical quality to it. This should not be a surprise as it does state on the packaging that it has over 50 ingredients in it. However it does calm down a bit after a week and to be honest it's nice to walk into the house and be greeted by the smell of this rather than cat poo!

I have been happy with it getting rid of the smells in the house and will definitely be buying another one when this one runs out as even when the cat is fully house trained it will still stop the smell of the litter tray wafting around the whole house.

I did use this pot in the small utility room that had a lingering smell even though it has been fully cleaned and within about 4 hours I was able to move the pot somewhere else as the room smelt very strong of Neutradol, and I am pleased to report that the room now smells very fresh indeed!

They do another fragrance in the range which is in green coloured packaging, I think it's labelled as super fresh and I may give this one a go next just to have a change, I know I can go back to the original smell if I don't like it.

Summary: Great for people with pets!

I will try this on your recommendation, I've got two cats and I know what it can be like sometimes! Thankyou, I've tried lots of other kinds with not much success

You could try pepperpowder in the places you do NOT want him to go. Our cat likes her litter tray ( emergencies only use) and uses that instead of going out of the cat flap. She then goes out and squawks under our bedroom window till we get up in the morning - cat flap is for selective use!

Good job it works, hope Dude learns to go outside if not in the tray, our neighbours cats all like our garden! UNFORTUNATELY!
