Advantages: cheap without reduction in quality, would choose over leading brands, soft, strong and abosrbant
So, I can only assume toilet roll reviews are not on everyones must read list, but I can't help but write about this one as I have been so impressed with it. I previously wrote a review on Tesco Value toilet roll stating that I don't want to spend too much on toilet roll as, at the end of the day, it ends up flushed down the toilet. I am sure I am not the only one that feels this way: to spend money on leading brands can feel like flushing money away (I don't recommend this!) Well, here is another budget toilet roll but this is a more luxurious toilet roll at a cheaper price without skimping on quality (like other value rolls)... in fact I think that this toilet roll is better than some leading brands! Plus it looks good in the bathroom without looking like a value roll.
-- Nicky --
I can't find much on the brand itself. Nicky seem to specialise in toilet and kitchen rolls. I am unsure of the range of kitchen rolls but they have a good selection of toilet rolls, from scented, balmed and non-scented/balmed. My favourite of the range is the talcum powder roll as the scent is lovely.
At 3-ply, the rolls are very thick and feel so smooth. Much smoother than leading brands and if you didn't know you would never guess that this was a budget roll. Each roll is about 20 metres long.
-- Experience --
On first trying this toilet roll I wasn't expecting much. I had never read a review on the product so I had no expectations. They were cheap (and while a major bargain hunter) I know that cheap usually means a reduction in quality - why else would it be so cheap? So on first trying this I was pleasantly surprised.
The toilet roll is very thick and of the same width as normal toilet roll (unlike Tesco Value) so you really feel as though you are getting your moneys worth. Not only this, but it is so soft to the touch. But don't be mistaken; at 3-ply this roll is very tough and you won't find it breaking apart in your hands, whether you are using it in the traditional sense, blowing your nose or even wiping up bathroom accidents you will find it does the job without breaking apart. Plus, its softness means that you don't have to worry about it irritating your more intimate parts or nose. And as it is so thick, you find that you definitely don't need to use so much as it is also very absorbant.
Compared to the Tesco Value toilet roll, this one wins hands down. As much as I don't have complaints about the Tesco Value roll (still only something you flush) Nicky is much better quality for not that much more in price. It is softer, wider range of scented and balmed rolls, thicker and 3-ply, and stronger.
One downside to the roll is sometimes you experience dust coming off the roll when using. It doesn't bother me too much, but may be an issue for others.
-- Price and Availability --
I have only seen this brand in Farmfoods and Home Bargains. It may be available elsewhere but not as far as I have seen. These stores are quite widespread though, and if my small town has both I am sure you will find one near you without too much hassle.
As for price, for £2 you can get 9 rolls or 4 for £1. For the 9 roll pack, that is about 22p per roll! A great price and very competitive of other brands. Though may be a little more money than Tesco Value toilet roll the key is that this tends to last longer and is of better quality so it could technically work out cheaper (I haven't done the relevant research to back this up). I would rather pay a little more for this, though I would still buy Tesco Value if needs must.
-- Conclusion --
Overall I would definitely recommend this. It may be a budget roll but it wins over more expensive brands. While I may have only recommended Tesco Value to those on a tighter budget; I would recommend this to everyone. It is cheap enough to not mind flushing it away but there is no reduction of quality. It surpasses other brands in terms of quality, especially with the added scent and balm!
