“ Northern Gas is a UK central heating provider who guarantee to provide customers with top quality installation at the right price. „
don't use this company I have had many problems with this company.very poor customer service if things go wrong they don't want to know.pay a little more and use some else;the problems I have had are too long to list.heating still not working right after 3 months.
My grandmother had a new boiler fitted by Northern Gas (Nov 2013). They took many short cuts with the work they carried out and left the house in not only an awful state, but left the ugly pipes & bulky fittings fully exposed, totally ruining the look of her beautiful new kitchen. Also left a hole in her ceiling!!! This was certainly not discussed or agreed to at initial visit!!! If that wasn't bad enough, they have blocked her washing machine in with these ugly pipes so if ever the washing machine needs fixing or replacing, the whole sink unit will need to be pulled out. I telephoned to complain about this following the advice of a highly skilled builder who stated the job could easily have been carried out with a much better outcome with just a little effort. Someone from Northern Gas came out to look at the problem and fobbed my grandmother off by telling her she needs to get the builder to swop her washing machine and sink unit around!!! She's already paid thousands for her new kitchen - what a cheek of them & such an awful unprofessional attitude! Northern Gas are refusing to rectify the problem stating it is against their company policy. Really wish we had gone with a more reputable & professional company now. I can't believe a workman would leave a job in such an awful state, not to mention the total unprofessionalism of the so called complaints inspector! Don't place your trust in these cowboys!!!
Northern Gas Heating have been awful from start to finish. As we had a low income, we were eligible for a grant for a free boiler installation. Boilergrants.co.uk, very conveniently (heavy sarcasm intended) selected this company for us to do our installation.
The process started around the beginning of June where the paperwork was sorted out and we were told to expect a call within 6 weeks telling us when our boiler would be installed as ours was very old and considered dangerous. 2 months later, we did not receive a call from Northern Gas Heating so we had to call and ask them about the time of our installation. We called them twice on two different days but only to be asked to expect a call back. Yet they did not call back! it was only on the third time when we rang that we were given a date for our installation.
Two engineers arrived on the day of our installation. They came in and looked around our house but then told us that they could not carry out the installation because they did not bring their equipment! And that we had to call Northern Gas Heating again to arrange another date. It took another 4 calls to get another date for the installation (again each time, apart from the last, being told to expect a call back that never came!).
On the second date of the installation (we are in the month of September now) two different engineers came and actually carried out the installation in one day yet we were still not incredibly satisfied as the pressure of the water flow coming out of our taps and in particular, our shower head was radically increased. A slight turn of the taps could result in the feeling of being in a storm! And getting the balance between hot and cold is only just about manageable. But then about 4 days later, we were even more dissatisfied when our hot water stopped working. We had to get the opinion of another engineer (not related to Northern Gas Heating) who told us that the engineers did not install our boiler properly and that they used the wrong pump for our boiler. He was able to restart the hot water for us but said this was only temporary and that the problem still needs to be fixed.
So we called Northern Gas Heating another four times and getting increasingly agitated but yet again we were told the exact same thing - to expect a call back.
We are now towards the end of October and yet they still haven't called back! Luckily, we did not spend a penny on them. We may have to find a much more reliable company to sort out our problems as Northern Gas Heating do not care at all about their customers and would rather be interested in making money from the calls they receive.
I had my old boiler replaced and upgrade of old 15 mm gas pipe, I so regret using this company they rushed the job the quality of the soldering of the pipe work is terrible I have done better job as a DIY'er clumps of unsightly solder drip marks from the joints this is so simple to avoid. They didn't bother to cover my furniture with dust sheets when cutting into the floorboards so I spent weeks later trying to get rid of the dust also I have exposed floorboards which were then screwed back down with galvanised nails put in without pilot holes so later these boards split needing to be replaced , I could go on for ages.... Please save yourself the stress ignore there slick sales pitch evidently the sales rep lived no where near me I understand the reasons why now!
We had several quotes for our new boiler.Northern Gas was not the cheapest or the most expensive. We decided on Northern Gas because we needed a company who we could trust and that were not to expensive. From start to finish they were brilliant. We had our quote ,our survey and new boiler fitted all within the week. The sales person went into everything for us.The surveyor explained everything and the instalation team were just great. They were very approachable and never stopped all day.Two great guys.We love our new boiler to bits and cannot belive the difference it has made to our heating and hot water.Would I use Northern Gas again ? Yes I would not think twice
d langford 12/4/11 i recently had a new heating system fitted by northern gas heating the standard of work was first class nothing was to much trouble for the engineers i would recommend this company to anyone
I would like to express my sincere satisfaction with the gentlemen, and they were gentlemen, who came out to update my existing boiler. I cannot praise them enough for their courteous behaviour, and the clean and efficient way they worked, always stopping to advise me of any challenges they had come across, and there were several, and that they listened to my requirements and took all this onboard whilst carryingout this task. These engineers had to travel a long distance to get to me, they kept in touch on their estimated time of arrival at all times. Well done Northern Gas you have excelled in the service you have provided on this occasion.
After much research we chose NorthernGas heating to instal our gas central heating. As a project manager trust me no stone or company were left unturned.
The customer service we received was second to none and their people are trully great assets. At every step in the process we were well informed and felt confident that no one was trying to pull the wool over our eyes. Unlike many of the competitors we approached. One very large UK gas company only provided a scibbled quote on a scap of paper and said we would only receive a detailed quote if we cose to go with them. Another company tried to sell us too many radiators and even suggested we needed an extra one for the dogs bed!! Whereas another company said no home visit was required to give us a quote.
The contract was in plain english with no jargon and any questions we asked were promptly answered to our satisfaction.
If I had to describe Northerngas Heating in words; it would be Honest/Reliable/Trustworthy/ Competative and Value for Money.
Mr & Mrs Rawson
I Recently got a quote from Northern gas,i got a home visit which the rep was surprisingly excellent in all fields of the installation and talked me threw the whole process in an understandable language. He was very polite and believe me i am not the person who can be easily swayed from salesmen but i had to hand it to northern gas excellent.out of all the other companies i got to give me a quote northern gas took first place.
Northern Gas Heating did a fantastic job fitting our new boiler.
The quote came in some £1000 cheaper than British Gas and they offer the same guarantee and cover on their workmanship and appliances.
Our house is an old cottage built in 1905 and we had an old back boiler stuck in a chimney downstairs, it had one of those nasty 80's style gas fires attached to it that we could never replace as it was part of the boiler, so it was destined to be replaced.
The lads came in on day one and laid down sheets everywhere so they didn't mess up the carpet, then removed the old boiler as well as any old pipe work and tanks that would become redundant as a result of the new system, they made sure to re-connect the mains water so we had running water (very thoughtful).
Day two they fitted all the new pipe work including the new gas mains, hung the new boiler on the wall and got it half set-up.
Day three they completed the set up and fitted the flue that would poke out of the slate roof, we had the boiler mounted on an internal wall so they had to flue through the roof. They also fitted thermostats to all our radiators, simple things but well worth it.
At the end they fully tested the system and showed me how to work the wireless thermostat, making sure I was 100% confident before they left.
The team of lads were from the Birmingham area and were a great bunch, Shafiq is a very skilled plumber, you would be lucky if you got him put it that way. The workmanship is 2nd to none and we have had no problems now 3 months down the line.
Overall the experiance was without drama, you have to remember that having a new boiler fitted is a messy and huge undertaking, so expect the unexpected and dont panic just go with the flow. You will be in safe hands with these people they looked after us a treat.
Many thanks Northern Gas Heating :-)
I had call recently to look up Northern Gas who had previously fitted my boiler. When searching the Internet I was amazed find such a torrent of criticism listed here. When I had my boiler fitted about 2 years ago the experience was truly excellent, from initial sales contact to the final installation. The installation engineers did encounter some problems because of the age of my properly, but were more than able to find professional solutions which didn't cost me any extra, despite adding about an extra half day to the job. The boiler has worked great ever since and has brought the cost of my bills down fairly dramatically. I'd have no problems using these guys again and look them up every year to carry out servicing etc. It's easy to criticise but takes more effort to pay a compliment. I'd recommend Northern Gas to anyone, as my experience was really very good, not to mention the cost which was massively below British Gas.
Well done Northern Gas
In July 2009 I finally decided to bite the bullet and replace our ageing boiler that had given us a lot of trouble in the last few years.
I read up on the reviews of Central Heating installers on this and another site and after getting a few quotes decided to take a risk and go with Northern Gas. 'Risk' because there were good and bad reviews on the site. I had hoped for the work to finish fast as I couldn't take many days off work. And Northern Gas appeared to be a large company and I was hoping that large companies would try and earn a reputation by doing good work. Should I have generalised?!
I contacted Northern Gas and an appointment was made promptly for their salesman to visit the property and give a quote. The salesman projected Northern Gas as a large company with several offices all over the country. Although, after having read the reviews I was aware that all their boilers and workmen came from their Wolverhampton office he tried to make me believe that they would come from the local office in Manchester. Not that this really matters. But again the salesman was trying to reinforce the illusion that Northern Gas is a large company with their own employees working for them.
The salesman visited the house and after doing a survey gave me a quote which was neither low nor too high. He assured me that the work should be completed within one or one and a half days. At this point I told him that previously workmen have been unable to find a 'Stop Tap' for the house although the water supply to the bathroom could be stopped using the isolator valve. He did a quick search and failing to find a Stop Tap advised that the Surveyor would do a detailed survey and should be able to find it. I felt reassured(again trusting this to be a large and reasonable company). We signed the Contract. The salesman advised that I pay by Credit Card 'just in case something goes wrong'. What a valuable advice this turned out to be. I paid the advance of £464 using my Credit Card.
The Surveyor kept his appointment and was satisfied with the plan of the project. However, he too was unable to find a Stop Tap and advised that the engineers who would come to replace the boiler would surely be able to find it on the day. He suggested that the water supply may need to be stopped using a Stop Tap on the street outside the house. He was however, unable to find any such Stop Tap.
I took two days annual leave. The engineers arrived with the boiler from Wolverhampton to begin their work on the day. After a quick inspection they declared that they would be unable to fix a horizontal flue as planned because of inadequate gap between the proposed flue outlet and the window in the room. This had been overlooked by their Surveyor. They then suggested that they would be able to install a vertical flue but the price would then go up. He called his office in Wolverhampton who quoted a price that was £300 pounds more than what was quoted. After a bit of haggling we settled on a price £75 more than the original price although in hindsight I feel I shouldn't have done this and instead should have got a fresh quote from other installers.
This is when they discovered that a Stop Tap in the house or in the main street was non-existent and that they would be unable to carry out the work although the water supply to the bathroom where the original boiler is installed could be stopped.
They left without having done any work at all. The engineers told me that Northern Gas uses Salesmen/Surveyors/Gas Engineers who do contract work for them and they usually don't have their own employees to do the work. The engineers just like the Surveyor and the Salesman were only working on a short contract for the company.
I called the company to ask for a refund. Their call centre employee assured me that a Manager would get in touch with me. After a couple of weeks of waiting for a Manager to call me I rang them again and was assured that a Manager would surely call me in the coming days to discuss the refund. I demanded to speak to a Manager but was told that the Manager was very busy. Again after waiting a couple of weeks more I called again and this time was told that I couldn't get a refund as I hadn't sent them a written request by email. I then emailed the Manager [name withheld] who would not reply to my email at all despite having got a 'Read Receipt' back. I waited a few weeks and emailed them again still getting no response. I then rang them again and this time was told verbally in no uncertain terms that I would not be getting a refund as I was calling outside their 'seven day cancellation period'. This despite the fact that the 'seven day cancellation period' as per their own terms and conditions does not apply in the event of Breach of Contract or when no work has been carried out. Again no manager would come on the phone to discuss this.
They were clearly hoping for me to forget my £464!!!!!!
Fortunately, I had paid by Credit Card. I complained to Capital One, my credit card provider, and they were very helpful in pursuing this matter with Northern Gas. Now, the Manager [name withheld] from Northern Gas sent me a short email saying that the Contract cannot be cancelled as the 'seven day cancellation period' had passed. I responded saying that this clause does not apply when no work had been carried out. I got no more email or phone replies from Northern Gas.
Capital One found substance in my argument and reversed the charge of £464 back to my account giving Northern Gas 45 days to file an appeal. Northern Gas didn't bother.
Morale of the story? Go with Northern Gas only if you are the type of person who would be happy to have to go to the Small Claims court or complain to your card company in the event that something like the above happens. The rest are best advised to stay clear. Nothern Gas is clearly not worried about their reputation.
Update as of 26/02/2010
In late January I was sent a letter from CapitalOne saying that Northern Gas have disputed the chargeback and as a result they have had to reverse the chargeback and debit my account again. Capital One informed me of this two months after Northerrn Gas wrote to them. I had since contacted the Trading Standards Tameside who then contacted Northern Gas. They had explained to Northern Gas that since they were unable to carry out the work the customer is eligible for a refund. Northern Gas has promised the Tameside Trading Standards that they would refund my money within 25 working days. This was promised in the first week of February and I am yet to receive the refund as of 25th February 2010. The Trading Standards have advised me to contact them again if Northern Gas fail to refund the money so they can take this further.
Update as of 20/03/2010
Trading Standards Tameside again got in touch with Northern Gas as they failed to pay the refund within the 25day deadline. This time Northern Gas apologised to Trading Standards and issued me with the refund.
I can now confirm that I have been refunded in full by Northern Gas Heating Limited.
i used Northern Gas Heating to install my central heating system.I felt that the sales pitch was very reasonable and affordable.i had my installation done on 2 weeks from 1st point of contact. The customer services department is FANTASTIC, Kayley Jones is such a credit to the company!Well done Northern Gas Heating
There comes a time when you have to say yes having a coal fire is romantic you have to get up to date and have central heating.
We decided on having gas central heating as we have got a baby living in the house and a coal fire doesnt keep a babies room at a certain temperature through out the night. We also thought it cheaper and also we had a gas pipe to the house from about 30 years ago albeit properly cut off. we could use.
We rang up our electric supplier and they said they would come and fit a meter and would get someone to check that we still had a gas supply after all these years. We did have, if we had not it would have been about £400 to get it.
The next was to decide who to get to do the central heating. We decided on getting three quotes, two local ones, asking a neighbouring builder who he would recommend, and one of the big boys but not British Gas as heard they were expensive.
We emailed Northern Gas and they rang back to make an arrangement for someone to come out and give us a quote on the spot.
By this time we had a quote from the two locals. The price was okay but it would take 10 days to do. With a baby in the house, a dog and nosy cats could I survive that let alone having every room in up roar.
Northern Gas arrived. Nice man. We had read up all about Northern Gas so when he started going on about the firm I plucked up the courage to say could we skip this part of it. Luckily he was not offended in fact pleased as it saved him one hours talk!
He went round the house helpfully saying what we had already thought and then sat and worked out the price. It was about £150 cheaper than locals so this wasnt the deciding vote. What was, was that they would do it in one day and probably half the next. A difference from 10 days. So there and then we decided to go with them especially as if anything cropped up and they had to do a correction or something else they spotted the price we pay would not change.
We arranged for the surveyor to come in a couple of days and the work to start 2 days after that.
Everything went okay with the surveyor saying where we wanted the boiler and the radiators were okay and work could go ahead.
Next day we had a phone call from Northern Gas saying could they start two days later as the boiler had not come from the manufacturers. Okay.
The day of the fitting came and three men turned up ready for action. They were only 5 minutes late but hey that was a 2 hour drive.
Boiler in the kitchen unobtrusive in the corner? No. regulations say we cant have it there or on the outside wall as too close to the neighbours. They ring their boss who then rings me and says that it will have to go up in the airing cupboard. Okay says me then he hits me with it will be an extra £500 but we will give you a discount!
Then it was time for him to get a shock as I quoted what the rep said "no extra expense". He got a firm No I am not paying anything extra. (I am now quite chuffed with myself for that as 18 months ago I would have been a little mouse and said okay). So he said he would ring me back.
Ten minutes later he rang back and said that Northern Gas would foot the bill themselves.
The men spent all day working hard and fast and came back to finish it the next day.
They had to take up some floor board upstairs but not as many as I thought. They took away all the rubbish. They actually cut through the laminated flooring in a dead straight line.
Would I recommend Norther Gas Central Heating ? The Sales Rep I would recommend. The workers I would recommend. The Surveyor should have known about where to put the boiler as that is what he came out to look at. I think that he is definately in the wrong job and he let Northern Gas down and because of him I could not give all the stars but the firm did it right in the end. and we are more than pleased with the central heating.
We have a remote control where we can easily set the times we want the heating to come on or you can, as we do set a temperature so that if it goes below this temperature then the heating goes on.
We are very pleased with it.
One thing if you are having central heating fitted and someone in the house is 60 plus dont forget to tell them and you will get £300 knocked off your bill.
