I live on cups of tea - several every day, as well as regularly boiling my kettle for water to cook in . As I live in a pretty hard water area, this done mean that it tends to get scaled up . Now, I'm not the best at keeping my kettle free of scale, and I only tend to notice when bits pop off into my tea - not tasty!
So, I went to the supermarket last time it happened, and picked up some Oust All Purpose Descaler . The box came with three sachets of the descaler, and it was so easy to use . All I had to do was half fill my kettle, bring it to the boil, and then leave it to cool down a little . Then I had to unplug the kettle , and pour one sachet of descaler into the kettle, and leave it to work for ten minutes. Except that I left it for 20, because I got distracted by a magazine.
When I eventually remembered, I emptied the kettle down the sink and was amazed to see all the bits of limescale going down the plughole. There seemed to be loads of it coming out, and it was great watching it drain away, because I could physically see the grot that had been removed .I then looked inside the kettle, and it looked brand new - the previously dull, white, scale caked element was shiny and glistening, the mesh filter was un-clogged, and the kettle just looked incredibly clean .
Of course, you need to rinse the kettle thoroughly after you use this, so I rinsed once with cold water, then filled it and boiled it, tipped the water out again, and then gave it another cold rinse.
I then felt satisfied with a job well done, and made myself a cuppa - which was scale free and delicious! My kettle seemed to boil faster too, although that may just be my imagination .
You can also use this product on coffee machines and irons, although I have never used it on either. I did however re-use a little of the mixture I used in the kettle, and soaked cloths in them then wrapped them round my bathroom taps - after ten minutes, it was easy to simply wipe off any buildup. It says on the packet also that you can use it on plastic and stainless steel - my taps are steel and my kettle plastic, and I had no problems using it on either .
I purchased my sachets for a pound in my local pound shop, I have seen them available in my local supermarket, but they were more expensive there, around £1.60 .
What can I say - its a great product that will keep your kettle fresh and clean, and therefore keep your tea tasty . It 's easy to use, inexpensive, and will , hopefully, prolong the life of my kettle!
5 stars .
