Advantages: Smaller bottle, works well

Disadvantages: Leaves some pasta marks

I have seen this product being heavily advertised but thought it was just another fad, I mean the adverts show all those clothes flying out of the bottle and to be honest the last thing I need is more clothes flying around my house!

Over the years washing detergents have changed a lot from the old fashioned powder, we have seen tablets, gel capsules and liquids and all promising us that they are the best. Personally I use the liquids and I am not really loyal to any particular brand, I basically buy the cheapest or the one on offer! All brands are now also claiming to be the best for the environment having recyclable packaging and producing better results at lower temperatures.

To be honest my boys are basically dirt magnets, they both play football and come home with half the pitch on them and I can’t even think about their school trousers! Just put it this way I am certainly happier when they wear shorts! I do find most liquids I use get most of the mud and dirt out but some are not so good on grass stains, pasta sauce or ketchup.

I was actually asked to test this product (lucky me!) and never one to look a gift horse in the mouth I couldn’t turn them down!

The review is for the non-bio one in the range.

PRODUCT STATEMENT

Persil small and mighty is the next generation of liquid detergent that is kind next to sensitive skin. The first 2x concentrated liquid detergent, which lifts out stains for a really deep clean. Persil non-bio is dermatologically tested to ensure all the kindness you need. Just one cap is enough for the whole wash load.

PRODUCT

The bottle has 730ml and is about the same size as a bottle of concentrated fabric softner, the colour is mainly grey with a blue lid and a blue bubble bit down the side, which you can also see how much liquid you have left. It states that it is dermatologically tested and is a 2x concentrated liquid.

USING

To be honest I wasn’t expecting much when I saw the bottle, it looked far to small and would only last me a few washes instead of the 20 it promises. The directions state that 1 cap full will be enough for 4/5kg and if like me you have a extra capacity machine then just add an extra half a cap full. You can either put in the washing machine drawer or use a dosing ball, which is my preferred method.

I have also never heard of anyone actually weighing their washing, so I basically fill the machine and use a cap and a half full. If unlike me you are lucky enough to use a half load of washing then just half a cap full in. You can also use more of the liquid for heavier soiled washing and for more stubborn stains rub a bit of the liquid on before actually washing. I also do the majority of my washing at 40c because I feel that my whites start to go that grey colour if I use the hotter settings.

I decided to give this product the ultimate testing and take it on holiday with me; you see we go to Scotland to be more precise the Outer Hebrides. We stay with the other half’s family who have a small farm. My lot spend 2 weeks fishing, on the beach and knee high in mud and cow s***! So I felt that this would be the perfect test!

The liquid is white in colour and quite thick, the scent is nice and fresh but to be honest I use fabric softener and that seems to mask the smell of the washing liquid.

So for the first test we have …. Grass stains or to be more precise heather, mud and grass! My youngest found the only mud hole on the farm and proceeded to run through it with Scott the resident sheep dog. Not content with that he then ran through the heather and slid on his bum down a hill!! Great fun for him not so for me! So I rubbed a small amount into the now brown and wet trousers and top (they were blue) and then shoved them in with all the other muddy things. To be honest I wasn’t holding out much hope but surprisingly they came out clean and defiantly less smelly! There wasn’t even a faint mark where the stain had been.

Next we have sand and seawater mixed with heather! Both my boys have wet suits for the beach but then always decided to get dry into their clothes and then get wet again! Again the liquid came up trumps and there wasn’t a single sign of watermarks or heather stains!

Saving the best for last we have cow s***, we spend most of the 2 weeks telling the boys to mind the cow pats and of course they usually end up with 1 or 2 on their clothes, which then results in me having to clean them up! I am happy to report that there was no lingering after smell or stains left after using this product.

The other things I have noticed with this product are it actually cleans grown ups clothes well to!!! I can’t say it made my whites any whiter but my clothes came up clean and that’s all I could really hope for. It is also good for bedding and towels leaving them clean, fresh and smelling nice.

The only problem I did come across was pasta sauce on whites, this was the only thing it didn’t get completely out and did leave a faint mark even after rubbing a little bit in first.

WOULD I USE THIS AGAIN?

Yes I think I would, it basically does what it says on the bottle and the bottle lasted me for the whole holiday which was around 11 days and I at least did 1 wash a day so all in all not bad value. The smaller packaging is also useful and takes up less room in your cupboards, and I thought the overall performance was very good. If it can get my boys clothes clean then it has my vote. The only draw back is the price I do feel that the full price is a bit steep but I have looked around and it is on special offer a lot so I will buy it again when it is on offer.
