Persil Small and Mighty
Advantages: Good value for money.
Disadvantages: Difficult to pour.
I seem to do loads of washing and am always on the lookout for a bargain on washing powder or liquid. I saw a huge bottle of Persil small and mighty on special offer in Somerfields for only £3.00 so I grabbed one. The label stated that it was reduced from £8 but I have seen it in Morrisons for £6.36.
*** Packaging ***
I picked the 1470 ml biological version which the label says contains pre-treaters. It is twice as concentrated as usual and states that you should get 42 washes out of it so it was a bargain.
The bottle is certainly huge with the familiar Persil logo on it. It has a small green cap which is the measure for the liquid as well.
*** Instructions ***
Very simple you just put a capful in the drawer compartment of your washing machine and select the wash cycle. You only need one capful per wash or one and a half for large or very dirty loads. It works even in cold water and claims outstanding results even at 15%. The label says that it is good for the environment because it uses less packaging and therefore less lorries to deliver it.
I must confess the amount seemed rather small and the first few times I added a bit more. (Naughty!)
*** Results ***
The coloured washing such as t-shirts came out clean on a 30% wash which I often use. I also got good results on shirts, bed linen and towels on a hotter wash.
I especially like the smell which is fresh and not too floral. I try to dry my washing outdoor weather permitting them like to finish it by hanging it over the radiators. This really bought the small out and filled the house with a very pleasant clean, fresh aroma.
I was pleased with the results and would certainly buy again if it was on special offer but I doubt that I would pay the full price.
*** Drawback ***
My only complaint is that the large bottle was difficult to hold and pour and I needed two hands to do it. Older people or those with weak wrists would certainly struggle to do this. A handle on the side would make it easier to manage.
The cap is made deliberately small to show you only need a small amount but I found that when I put the cap back on the bottle quite a lot of the liquid ran down the sides of the bottle making a sticky mess. The type of cap that is on Comfort fabric softener (it looks a bit like a hat!) is far superior and keeps the liquid in the bottle.
Summary: Good results with less liquid,
