Advantages: does the job, smells nice & fairly priced
Disadvantages: may irritate sensitive skins?
My late father worked for Unilever for many years & I grew up becoming familiar with many of their products including Persil which has been around since the early 1900's.
To be honest I've never really looked seriously for any other washing powder as Persil does everything I'd expect so I've only had to buy handwash for woollens & delicate fabrics.
Hubby buys the big boxes - (4.75g) about every 9 months from Costco/Makro and usually pays around £12.95 (plus VAT). The box has a large plastic handle which is convenient if you need to carry it around but I just pour it into a plastic drawer in the utility room so it takes up no space.
The boxes are a bit awkward to open at first as there a very strong perforated cardboard strip which has to be tackled in order to access the powder but, one opened, the lovely smell hits you & it remains just as nice-smelling every time I use it.
It comes with a good-sized plastic scoop so you can measure out exactly how much/little you need. As we've just got a new washing machine (which works much better than our old one) & most of the family's clothes seem to be either dark or black I find I only have to use half the amount I used to pop in the washer.
Persil, to date, has never let me down as our clothes always look & feel clean & the smell is nice although it doesn't last too long. It seems to cope with heavily-soiled jeans etc as well as delicate knickers & lingerie & none of us have expereienced any sort of irritation to the skin.
There has been the odd occasion when I've this on woollens & for handwashing (even though it's not actually recommended) & haven't experienced any problems. I've also used a little as a stain remover (by rubbing a little into the offending area) & it usually does the trick.
So, I have to say I've been pleased with Persil & don't see myself changing washing powders unless they change the formula.
summary
~
- reasonably priced.
- in my opinion it does the job.
- smells nice.
- our family's not experienced any irritation to the skin.
- I've found I don't have to use as much powder as recommended.
Summary: have used this for YEARS as it does everything I expect from a washing powder
