Advantages: Great duster for allergy sufferers.
Disadvantages: The refills can expensive.
As per the title, I have asthma. I am also allergic to feathers, so feather dusters are right out as a dust and feather combo would have me rushing for my inhaler in no time. Yet because of my breathing problems, I do need a dust-free environment more than most people and as much as my fellow asthmatics.
This system lets me get the dusting effectiveness of a feather duster with no addition of allergic triggers to the already bad effects of dusting.
In the starter kit you get two fluffy duster heads which you attach to the two long prongs of the plastic hand unit. Because of the way the prongs are angled the heads do remain firmly attached as well as giving a good circumference of fluffy cleaning area. The artificial fibre fluff you dust with is extra long so it picks up dust even from crevices and keeps it picked up with ease.
As the width of cleaning area is big relative to the fixed prongs which hold it in place it is great for dusting between ornaments without having to take them off the shelf, dust with a normal duster and polish and then put everything back. I will still do that but for a quick dust that gets the shelf clean without causing an asthma attack these Fluffy Dusters are fabulous.
The head is extendible, which is great for this short girl as it makes reaching dust at otherwise awkward places like the back of the telly a doddle. It is not the extendability of my mop gadget but it does give that extra hand's length of reach which can make all the difference and all at the press of a button. The button mechanism ensures that the duster stays extended and does not collapse on you just as you reach a tricky spot of dust.
The duster heads are disposable and Pledge sell replacements in both the original unscented and citrus varieties. However, I throw mine in the washing machine and am still reusing the two heads that came with the starter kit after well over a year, which makes this a really good value for money choice as well as an effective means of dusting.
I find it especially useful in keeping my trusty laptop clean and dust free. One sweep takes away the dust and all without the need for specialist and expensive cleaning products. It also allows dusting without having to break out the Pledge spray - which I do love for my wooden furniture but which does not always agree with my asthma. Without the spray, it will not deliver a polish, but it will deliver Clean and sometimes and in some places that is all that is needed.
The dusters are endorsed by Allergy UK for both house dust mites and also for cat allergens.
You can get these from all the major supermarkets as well as online. It will currently cost £2.80 at Tesco with refills costing £3.00 for five duster heads.
The duster will fold back onto the hand unit which minimises its storage footprint.
The starter kit comes in a cardboard backed curved rigid plastic container. This delivers the hand unit and duster heads to you safely and cleanly. Then all you need to do is extend the prongs, fit the duster into the two channels on the back of the duster head and get dusting.
Which these Fluffy Dusters do beautifully.
Summary: Cleans dust quickly and easily without the need for feathers.
