Advantages: Quick, effective and easy.
Disadvantages: Smell
I love wood, its natural, beautiful and gives a touch of class to any room.
However wood needs care to keep it looking shiny and sleek and so this is where my favorite wood polish comes in...
Before we start though lets just get one thing clear there are two types of wood. "Wait a second" I can hear you say "isn't there hundreds of types of wood?" well yes but when we talk about your average furniture there are two types: sealed and unsealed.
Unsealed wood is basically wood without a sealer (protective finish), sealed wood is protected by usually many layers of high gloss, and a finish (satin or matte).
Pledge is not suitable for unsealed wood, this type of wood should be waxed, after you wash it, to keep it water resistant, as any wood under prolonged contact with water will warp.
So back to Pledge, pledge is a furniture polish that cleans conditions and protects, (and yes I did get that off the bottle) it is made by the Johnson company and retails for about 1.50-2.00 euros. However one bottle (250 ml) lasts quite a long time.
Pledge is not a spray can but a aerosol can, and like all aerosol cans you need to shake them rigorously in order to ensure that the propellant is properly mixed with the product mix.
When you press on the nozzle the liquid comes out and settles on the table/chair looking like a white cream. Even the consistency is like a runny cream. Then using a dry clean cloth, rub the mixture into the table/chair.
It dries almost instantly, and even though on the canister it advises you not to use on floors as it can cause them to be slippery, if you dry it with a dry floor rag this shouldn't be a problem.
I find that this product gives a real nice even shine, without too much rubbing or work required. I use it almost every day on a polished table and it looks like it did the day it was made. I would recommend Pledge as a genuine furniture polish that delivers what it promises, and isn't very expensive either.
One thing to stress however is that this is a flammable substance, and also has a very strong chemical smell. You should only use it in a well ventilated room as the fumes can be very overpowering.
There is a perfume used in Pledge, but to be honest there is no smell that comes to mind other then well maybe permanent markers, ha!
Summary: A cheap and efficient wood polish.
