Advantages: easy to use
Disadvantages: looks daft, not humane
I was astonished the other day to see loads of small flying insects/ unusual flies around the cars in the drive. There were so many of them that I thought we would be visited by the local press in search of an interesting story on the lines of the plague of locusts in the Bible. I looked around but there didn't seem to be any in our neighbours' front gardens.
I had thought of phoning the council but remembered how much they charged us years ago for dealing with a wasp's nest and decided I would kill the b*****s myself. I used 2 cans of fly spray plus something without a name which I found in the garage but had a dead fly on the front. No luck, the wretched things seemed to multiply in the heat!
I decided to look around Poundland where I saw this rather stupid-looking (so I thought at the time) device which looks a very cheap child's tennis racquet. It looked quite poor in quality because the plastic looked flimsy and the edges were rough but I decided to spend £1 plus another one to buy the2 x A4 batteries which you need to bring it to life.
There is a battery compartment and once they are popped in all you do is push a little button, hold and a red light goes on so you are ready to zap!
I looked like a maniac waving my arms around but when I'd calmed down a bit I noticed the flying things died on impact once they hit the wire mesh in the body of the terminator. After an hour or so I think most of them had fried and the others just scarpered - I hope they haven't all flown into your gardens - sorry, but at least you know how to get rid of them now!
I should really have found out exactly what they were and found a more humane way of dealing with them but I'm afraid time was of the essence and no way did I want them coming indoors.
You can laugh and scoff at the silly-looking object but I tell you what it works and for just £1 + £1 so forgive me for leaving you but I'm just going to add another one to my shopping list just in case this one breaks.....
Summary: gets rid of unwanted guests quickly
