Advantages: Does the job, mess free, doesn't smell, non-toxic

Disadvantages: does dry up and the lid can get gunky

My daughters at school full time now, and very keen on painting and sticking - so much so that we purchased a variety of items so she could do it at home easily at the kitchen table. Now, if you're doing sticking, you need glue , and Pritt Stick being the brand I trust, thats what came come with me.

I paid a little over £2 for a 40g tube (there were two other sizes on display, and 10g and a 20g) and it was easily recongnisable on the shelf, being in a predominantly white tube, with a blue stripe and the logo in red. On the bottom is a notched black ring, and the cap is white.

This glue is safe for kids to use, being non-toxic (as I child I once took a large bite out of one, and suffered no illl effects) and is not messy, operating in much the same way as a lipstick . Twist the black bit one way, it pops up, twist the other way, it goes down. Its thick, and covers paper easily, and other pieces of paper, glitter, and even feathers will stick easily. It dries quickly, is virtually odourless, and easily gets washed off tables, clothes, and little hands.

It's not really a strong glue - it works fine for sticking things on to paper, but you wouldn't use it for household tasks in the same way you might use stronger glues. There are generic versions available, but many of them are utter pants, drying out much faster and sticking less effectively.

Pritt stick has two minor disadvantages - the cap can get quite gunked up, which is easily solved with a quick wipe with a wet cloth before putting the lid back on . And you do need to put the lid back on, otherwise the glue does dry out and become hard and unusable , so I do have to patrol my daughter to make sure the lids not left off for to long . They do seem to last a fair while, my current sticks lasted about 2 months, although will need replacing next week.

Overall though, its an easy safe product for kids to use when doing arts and crafts, and far less messy than PVA glue. It is a little pricey in comparison to some of the generic brands of glue sticks, but you do get what you pay for .
