Advantages: Highly absorbent and brilliant for many household tasks!

Disadvantages: Not a pretty design.

Recently I was drawn to an offer on the Ocado website where I regularly shop for groceries. Here for 99p was an offer for "Regina Blitz All Purpose Kitchen Towels" and as it was a make I had not really been familiar with I decided to give it a try.

I pretty soon remembered that not long ago I bought some chamomile scented toilet tissue made by the same company, and further research indeed verified that this is made by the same firm. A relative newcomer to the British market this company is based in Post Talbot in Wales, and has been making these products for the last 3 years.
This operation is an offshoot of the giant company Sofidel who are Italian manufacturers of paper based products.

I adored the chamomile toilet tissue, and had high expectations this towel would be of good quality, and I was certainly not disappointed.

The kitchen roll is a giant affair and not for the faint hearted, as it is like a giant roll of Anaglypta waiting for the painting brush. Put it this way, having bought this you are ready for all the spills life can throw at you. In our house the main culprits are feline. They have little accidents when eating, and never manage to keep wet food in their bowls, despite having it in deep dishes on trays. This stuff wipes up spills in no time.

The other day while suffering from acute jet lag I was causing havoc all over the house, and an entire cup of coffee landed on my lounge floor. This tissue was brilliant and had the liquid soaked up in no time as was every bit as good as Bounty (now confusing called Plenty!), and all the other competitors out there.

The tissue is lint free and I use it for cleaning windows. It works a treat and leaves them smear free and sparkling, and on kitchen surfaces I use it in conjunction with Method Lavender Multi Purpose Spray on a daily basis to keep the working areas clean, and this avoids having dish cloths hanging around gathering germs.

It is brilliant to use when cleaning the bathroom, as it is strong and stands up to the job really well without breaking, and again this negates the need to have cloths for all these purposes.

At present this giant roll is retailing for 99p and for this you get 100 large sheets which last for ages in our house. It does explain on the package that standard kitchen roll sheets are 24 by 23cm and that their sheets are 33 by 26cm so you really are getting a good sturdy product here.

The tissue is made in 3 layers which is why it is so absorbent. I would say that it lasts me three times as long as any normal roll I have previously purchased.

If you like pretty designs such as herbs or flowers on your kitchen towel then I'm afraid this will not fit your requirements, as it is a tiled pattern in blue, and is not that attractive to be honest. It certainly looks like it could do with hanging and a coat of emulsion. I must confess I do try to buy pretty towels when I see them as it makes cleaning a bit more appealing, but for very messy jobs these are not ideal as the ink from the designs can leach out. In fact as my husband rises before I do he often greets the cats before me, and hates decorated towels, preferring man sized ones which mop up overnight spillages and accidents quickly; rather than being aesthetically delightful he prefers to use something with strength. This fits the job perfectly.

I have been very impressed with this product and certainly will continue to purchase at this offer price. I just can't help seeing it as a roll of Anaglypta which my father used to hang in every room when I was a child- still that was a sturdy thing too and stood the test of time, so maybe this one will too!

Summary: I think these are worth looking out for.
