“ Brand: dotcomgiftshop / Type: Food Storage „
Recently I made one of the many car journeys I make to Scotland from Essex, and next week I will embark on the long journey north once again, this time to collect my son from university at St Andrews. The hours spent in the car are long and catering for these journeys can be difficult. Being vegetarian there are few options to eat on the motorway, even if we were happy with the inflated prices in some of the places, so we tend to pack food before we leave. We then supplement it along the way with treats from M&S which are now quite conveniently placed in some service areas.
I had been looking for some containers in which to pack some little snacks, and as so often is the case, I found the perfect selection on Amazon. They are called "Round Snack Boxes Set Of 4 Fruits"- a rather long name for 4 dinky little pots of varying sizes with good fitting lids and attractive decorations on the top.
These containers are really eye catching and retail for £4.95 for the set. They are sold by a company called -Dotcom Gift Shop, who are one of Amazon's Marketplace sellers. I looked on the DOTCOM website to find these retailing for £6.95, so Amazon have the bargain here I think. The website does look lovely and I really enjoyed looking at the items they carry over at www.dotcomgiftshop.com.
The set of 4 boxes are plastic and their measurements are 12 x 5cm, 10 x 5cm, 9 x 4cm, 7 x 3cm and they are perfect for storing nuts, dried fruits and other snacks, and the larger one holds oatcakes, a roll, or biscuits as it is quite roomy. The decorative nature of these containers makes them a pleasure to use. The main colours used in the design are red and white, and they stack on top of each other for easy storage. The largest one has an apple on top, and then the next two have a pear and a lemon, whilst the smallest has a bunch of cherries. The great thing I find with these is that they sit nicely on the dashboard, so you have easy access to sustenance on long journeys.
I have also been using them on picnics a lot. Near to where I live there is a riverbank where my husband and I regularly go to sit and watch the boats go by. We often take a picnic with us, and these containers have been perfect for storing grapes and other things we like to have with us.
If you have children these would be so lovely to have in lunch boxes, and the company also sell some with skulls on the front (which are black and look quite evil) or some with woodland animals so you can cater for all tastes with these! The woodland ones are really cute with deer and toadstools, and would be lovely for young children. This design also has a matching lunch bag! I know when my daughters were small they would have adored these, and one of my daughters who loved chocolate buttons would have put her stash in them I am sure!
Even if you don't go on picnics or travel in the car these are perfect just for fridge storage and leftovers. The manufacturer says they are dishwasher safe, but only on the top rack. Personally I don't put them in the dishwasher as I prefer to hand wash them as I feel they are too lovely to risk it!
Before I purchase items I also try to read customer reviews if I can. The only negative comment that seemed to come from these is that their lids are not as tight fitting as maybe customers would like. I agree with this. Strangely though it does differ between pots, but I would say that it is adequate for nuts and dry goods, but I wouldn't use it for liquids as there is a chance it could spill. Of course if you were placing these upright in a picnic hamper that would be acceptable, but inside a handbag with items destined for lunch I would proceed with caution.
Overall I think these are a summery set of stacking boxes which I have really enjoyed owning and using. Amazon is even including these in their free supersaver delivery making them a real bargain. I am planning repeat purchases for family and friends as I think these offer something a bit different for a reasonable cost.
