Sainsbury's Basics Sponge Scourers

**The Product**

Another cheap and cheerful product from Sainsbury's own brand range, 'Basics'. These are simply packaged products, with no frills and are aimed at the budget end of the market.

The sponge scourers are made of bright yellow sponge material with a green 'scrubbing' layer. The sponges come in a pack of 5 and cost a minuscule 15p, that's just 3p per scourer. At this low price I can afford to use a fresh scourer each day!
The scourers are a little smaller than similar branded scourers, they measure approximately 4 by 2 ½ inches and are 1 ½ inches high. Sainsbury's recommend that the sponge part of the scourers can be used for general cleaning and wiping jobs and the green scourer part for removing stains and burnt residues from ovens, cookware and the like.

They should not be used on non-stick surfaces.

**In Use**

I use these scourers for general washing up and cleaning. They are ideal for cleaning the glass panel of my oven door and they cope very well with most household cleaning tasks. They do tend to hold their shape and do not disintegrate as fast as some other sponge scourers I've used in the past.

A word of warning, do not do as I did recently and use these on a car window!
Yes, I know, it was a stupid thing to do!
We live by the sea and during the summer months are plagued with nesting seagulls......their antics are a pleasure to watch, but their droppings sure do make a mess!

I came out one morning last week to find my car had been well and truly dived bombed by gulls, I think they may have been using it for target practice! The droppings came off of the paintwork with no problem, but there was a stubborn dried on residue on one of the rear windows, being in a hurry and not thinking clearly, I grabbed up a sponge scourer and gave the mess a good scrubbing. It came off, but left a large number of surface scratches on the glass...Whoops!

You live and learn!

**My Thoughts and Conclusion**

These scourers are great value for money. They do exactly what you expect a scourer to do, clean! They are as mentioned, quite small in comparison to other makes, but I do not find this to be an inconvenience as when you consider that a similar product (Spontex Wash-ups) costs around 65p for 2 sponges, the value for money far outweighs the size difference.

I tend to use a new scourer daily, although they will last for several days before the green scouring section softens too much to be usable.

For the budget conscious consumer, Sainsbury's Basics Sponge Scourers are well worth a try, after all, at 15p you won't have wasted much if you don't like them!

By the way, yes, of course I threw away the scourer used to tackle bird's mess!

Thank you for reading.

Update, Decemebr 2011. These scourers have now been reduced in price to 14p per pack. What a bargain!

Summary: A good basic scourer.
