Advantages: Good quality basic version of something that we flush down the toilet

Disadvantages: None at the price

In times of credit crunch, we all must look for ways to trim our budgets around the edges and swapping out branded toilet roll for own brand equivalents would seem to be a no-brainer. Reading some other reviews on this product I have to say that I'm surprised - how pampered must we be to complain about something that is used to literally wipe our backside?

This product is deep discounted by Sainsbury's like many of their fine Basics range and currently a 12 pack will set you back £1.17. That's right, less than 10p a roll! I don't care how wonderful Andrex et all are: how can you justify spending four to five times as much for something that you flush down the toilet after use?

This toilet paper has 200 sheets a roll and while I agree that it is fairly loosely packed, the amount of sheets is stated on the pack. It's not as if they're trying to trick anyone here and I think it's wonderful value for money. Without meaning to be graphic, we go through roughly a roll a week in our flat and to be honest I can't see us wanting to 'upgrade' our loo roll in future. Even with a family of four or more using it it would remain wonderful value. I grew up in a household of seven folk, so feel qualified to know a thing or two about economies of scale!

The paper is strong enough for the task in hand (not as thin as some cheap paper) and is certified under the Forestry Stewardship Council (FCS) scheme as having come from well-managed forests. This is a great idea and is pretty much essential if we wish to continue using paper in the quantities that we do as a species. It is fairly soft, although I will freely admit that it's not quite as pampered a product as some of the padded brands on the market.

Cheap, economical, strong, soft and sustainable. A well-deserved five star rating and another example of Sainsbury's growing Basics range.

Summary: Why would anyone spend any more for something that, by nature, is used once?

Thanks foxylou1980. Without meaning to go overboard, spending a fiver on toilet roll seems almost immoral to me :D
