Advantages: A good way of dealing with unwanted and harmful bacteira.

Disadvantages: Not bio -degradable

Up until a few months ago I was among one of those who had never bought or tried any of the very popular wipes that make the world go around. I had seen them in the supermarkets and just dismissed them out of hand. Why buy wipes when you have a perfectly good dishcloth?

Then I had a `wipe initiation ceremony`, a grand title for such a treat!
My niece is wipe mad, bathroom wipes, leather wipes, floor wipes, baby wipes and of course the ever popular kitchen wipes.
My only concern is that the toddler doesn't get his lunch wiped off with a cloth that ought to be cleaning the sink! But my niece assures me all of the wipes are clearly marked.

Sainsbury's cleaning wipes are quite a natty little invention, they come in either lemon or lime fragrance. Up until now I have only tried out the lemon wipes, I am not convinced that the lime fragrance will be my cup of tea.
The wipes come in a good thick plastic packet which is a beautiful sunshine yellow. The packet has been well designed, it allows you to lift a plastic tab and pull a single wipe out of the packet with ease.
After you have pulled the wipe out you have to remember to reseal the packet, this keeps the remaining wipes moist.
The wipes aren't huge by any standards but they are satisfactory. There is no mistaking that they are lemon, the citrus smell fills the air as you hold the wipe in your hand.
Lift the wipe up and as you examine it you will see that there is no great thickness there, the fibres of the wipe are closely knit but it still remains see through.

Sainsbury's wipes contain no bleach, they contain ethanol, which is a form of alcohol and a cationic surfactant which is a substance that reacts when it is dipped in water and enables the cleaning process to go ahead.
The wipes kill E Coli, Salmonella and Listeria.
Each wipe must only be used once to prevent the spread of bacteria.
The wipes have not been tested on animals.

So just one problem remains, there is nothing listed on the product information to tell you that the wipes are bio-degradable, so I am assuming that when you dispose of them they take light years to break down.

Normally I use my cotton dishcloth, run some water into the basin in the sink, add a drop of bleach and wipe my kitchen surfaces over to ensure that they are as bacteria free as I can make them.
A process that I have used for years, so introducing wipes was a different way of coping with work surface germs and bacteria.

When the wipe is first lifted out of the packet it is very moist, as you place it onto the worktop and apply slight pressure the moisture in the wipe leaves streaks of citrus smelling liquid sitting on top of the worktop. Just gently run the wipe over the area that you want to clean, applying just a tiny bit more pressure on any area that is stained , the moisture sitting on the worktop soon dries leaving the area looking and smelling fresh and clean. This effect is should last for twelve hours after use.

The wipes are ideal for any small spillages, if there is a lot to clean then you would have to wipe it off using the dishcloth first of all then revert to finishing off with a wipe.
A pack of forty Sainsbury's lemon wipes costs around 92p.
I am keeping a packet in my sink unit drawer to use as and when, maybe I wouldn't use the wipes every day of the week but I like the smell and it is comforting to know that you are protecting the family against those harmful bacteria.

Summary: A great help to zap those germs and bacteria.
