Review of Sainsbury's Thick Bleach Household cleaning products are not the most inspiring of items that I put in my shopping trolley and I must admit to being a bit traditional when it comes to household cleaners. I would rather have a few multi-tasking products rather than a cupboard full of fancy items designed to be used for one specific purpose. Bleach is one of my regular purchases as I find it useful for so many jobs around the home. I know some people find the aroma of bleach a bit eye watering and offensive, but personally I like it and feel the scent is indicative of a job well done. Branded bleach can be quite pricey these days and as I am on a fairly tight budget, I do seek out bargains and special offers regularly. I have purchased this particular bleach many times and have always found it satisfactory. My main use for neat bleach is as a toilet and drain cleaner and I use it in a diluted solution for wiping down kitchen work-surfaces, bathroom tiles, sanitary ware and floors. **The Bleach** The bleach is presented in a tall, dark blue plastic bottle. The bottle and cap are both recyclable. The handle is easy to grip and is an integrated part of the bottle design. The cap is as one would expect, of the childproof variety and the bottle has raised grooves running around the bottle and braille 'bumps' on the widest part of the bottle shoulders for partially sighted users. Sainsbury's provide all product information and warnings on the label and we are advised that this bleach will kill 100% of germs including listeria, salmonella and E.coli. As with all household cleaning products this should be stored well away from children and pets. **My Thoughts and Usage** I have found that this bleach compares extremely well with its branded counterparts, it has the fresh bleach-y smell that I like and I feel satisfied that the product will do what I expect of it. The actual product is a yellowy coloured thick bleach, it pours well and although the bottle does not have a directional spout (although I'm sure it used to!) I can use this for a variety of jobs around my home. I find it clings well to surfaces such as toilet bowls and also it also seems to help inhibit the dreaded lime scale that is an on-going problem in my hard water region of the UK. Diluted this bleach is a useful household cleaner for all kinds of hard surfaces and it leaves a fresh, clean aroma which lingers and reassures me that things are clean and germ free. The bleach must be used with caution as it will remove colour from fabrics if splashing should occur, as my dark pink pedestal mat can concur! Price wise this own brand bleach is a bargain in my opinion at £1.90 for a large 2 litre container. To conclude, I would recommend this Sainsbury's Thick Bleach to other consumers, it is definitely a firm contender in my opinion! Thank you for reading. ©brittle1906 January 2014 N.B. This Sainsburys Original Thick Bleach comes in 2L bottles and is currently retailing at £1.85. The packaging consists of a very boring dark blue bottle with a twistable red cap. The bleach itself is clear and thicker than water but not as thick as a laundry gel for example - it's somewhere in between the two. The bleach is suitable for a variety of applications. It can be used neat down sinks, drains and toilets and it can be diluted with water for use on work surfaces, basins and for bleaching clothes. I usually only use this product for cleaning sinks as I prefer to get a more specialised toilet cleaner for cleaning the toilets which is coloured so I can see the bits I have missed. After pouring the neat bleach down the sink it has to be left for two to three minutes and then washed down with cold water. A faint bleach smell can be detected for a little while afterwards however it is not too strong or unpleasant. In my opinion this product is good value and does the job perfectly fine however I probably wouldn't use it for kitchen work surfaces as I would prefer something which smells a little nicer for everyday use in the kitchen even if I had to pay a little extra. Finally, it's important to note that, as with any household bleach product, it contains a mix of sodium hydroxide and hypochlorite and is therefore an irritant and should be used with caution. It cannot be used with any other cleaning product as this can result in dangerous gases being released. It also cannot be used on stainless steel, enameled surfaces, plated items, soft furnishing and carpets and it will obviously bleach clothes too. In summary, this is a good value bleach for quickly squirting down the sink and toilet every now and again but for everyday kitchen use on surfaces I prefer something a little more expensive with a pleasant fragrance.
When it comes to bleach I am a take it or leave it kinda girl brand wise. Domestos and all that jazz I will buy but sometimes on a shop if my purse strings are a bit tight and I want a luxury I will happily opt for the Sainsbury's brand bleach to get the job done...after all it's only going down my loo and in the bin! With the packaging I always get the 750ml bottle which is about 97p. It is a deep blue bottle, with a basic label that says it is Thick Bleach - original with limescale deterrent. There is also a bold claim "100% Germ kill*". Quite a bold statement as most brands will usually say 99.9%! The asterisk on the back highlights that this bleach kills 100% of germs including Listeria, Salmonella and E.Coli. The 750ml bottle looks similar to mainstream brands of bleach as it has a protruding lid and has a red resealable cap. As expected with these products, it has a child proof lid system whereby you have to squeeze it at certain pressure points and turn it to be able to open the lid effectively. The bleach itself is a thick clear liquid, but does have a yellow colouring to it. The description of it as "thick" is definitely appropriate as when I pour this bleach in my loo it coats the rim sufficiently and it is not thin or watery in any way. It's quite hard to describe the scent as this basic bleach doesn't have any particular smell like citrus or anything, so really it just smells well...bleachy! Lol! Nevertheless the bleach does a good job at removing grime and slime from my loo to put it politely! I usually will squirt a small amount around the rim and leave it overnight and in the morning my toilet looks and feels fresh and clean so this bleach is very effective. Whenever i change my bin I always clean it usually with zoflora but if I have run out I will pour a small amount of bleach n with some boiling hot water and leave it to settle for 15 minutes before giving it a good scrub. Not a lot is required to make a difference as bleach is a highly concentrated chemical anyway, so with this bottle a little goes a long way, and I always ensure I am fully stocked with some bleach as you can use it for cleaning everything! So basically I would say this is a great bleach, as it eliminates smelly odours, removes stains and kills bacterial as good as any brand named bleach I have had and allows me to save a few pennies at the same time! I would definitely recommend it :)
When it comes to bleach I simply love the stuff. The thought of germs drives me mad and at the moment I'm staying with my mate house clearing with her four dogs. We've been so busy with said house clearing and doing car boots simply to clear out so much stuff that from time to time things get on top of us and one minute the house is reasonably clean and tidy, next it simply isn't and is a sh** tip! To make sure we're clean we bought a bottle of this the other day from Sainsbury's costing a mere 73p for the bottle. The toilet was dirty, kitchen work tops grubby and sticky and the place seriously needed degunking! The Packaging: 750ml dark blue bottle with a curve to the top of it and a red push down screw on/off cap to the top of it. Around the middle of the bottle there is a lighter blue label and on that I'm told it is Sainsbury's Original Thick Bleach that has a lime scale deterrent, kills germs including Listeria, salmonella and E-coli, even after the flush. On the back of the bottle I', told a bit about the product, cautions and warning are listed, the size is stated (as I've listed already), the composition of the bleach is also given and contact details for Saisnbury's are stated. Nice enough bottle that is informative enough and I do like the nozzle idea to the top of it for ease of squirting the bleach around a toilet rim and general ease of handling. Using It: This relatively thick clearish bleach is fabulous! Don't get it on clothes of course as it takes colour out of them but you can use this anywhere really within reason. We squirted it under our toilet rims (we have two toilets), we put splodges in sinks (we have three of those!) and gave the ceramics a slight rub over and rinsed with a little cold water. We wiped down worktops and tiles with a little of this on a cloth and you could visibly see ingrained dirt and grease being removed onto said cloth and it really does leaves where you have touched with this clean as anything! You can simply use this anywhere, dilute it, use it neat or if it makes you happier rinse it after using it! Of course you can't use it on wood or anywhere you can remove colour from but anywhere else really I have found fine and our mugs really did come up sparkling after leaving them over night with water in each one and a little of this stuff! Verdict: A great priced bleach that not only cleans with ease, it really doesn't smell too bad at all for a bleach. It removes deep down grime from places such as toilets and leaves places germ free but also gives off a really clean feel and promotes confidence! I will certainly buy this time and time again for ease of power cleaning in the future! We paid 73p for our 750ml bottle but this is also available in a 2 litre size for £1.75 and it is also available in both sizes in lemon fragrance too. Only in Sainsbury's stores.
