      Stain remover

      Sainsbury Stain Remover Powder

With a very busy washing machine which is worth its weight in gold, and many piles of washing every day, I am always on the look out for effective cleaners.

This one promises to remove even the most stubborn stains, including red wine, curry and lipstick, and whilst doing this, it will keep your whites whiter than white. It is also suitable for use at all temperatures and can be used for hand and machine washing.

      ~~Product and Packaging~~

The product comes in a brightly decorated tub with a pull off pink lid, containing 500g of the product. On the back of the tub are all the instructions and lots of information about the stain remover.

The tub comes sealed with one of those wrap around the pot bits of plastic, and once pulled off, the tub is remarkably easy to open- some may consider it as being too easy to open although the warning does state that it should be kept out of the reach of children.

Once opened, I see the quit fine grains of white granules, and inside the tub there is also a little blue scoop- very neatly packaged.

      ~~How to use it~~

For use in the washing machine, add one scoop to your normal detergent, and obviously, for tough stains, use more powder (I never know if they are tough until I have tried and failed to get the stain out). The product can be used for soaking; merely add a scoop (30g) or 2 to warm water and leave the items to soak. For really tough stains, the product should be diluted and then applied directly to the fabric.

Remember to test a small area for colour fastness, and if in doubt, hand wash the item first to see how it gets on.

      ~~Warnings~~

As with most products of this type, this comes with warnings:
      * harmful if swallowed
      * * could cause serious damage to eyes
      * * keep out of the reach of children (for the above reasons)

      ~~Other bits of information~~

The product does contain a high proportion of oxygen based bleaching agents, and there is no guarantee that colour fastness will be maintained.

      ~~Price and Availability~~

The product is available from Sainsbury stores or online at www.sainsbury.co.uk.

      It costs £2.49 for 500g.

      ~~Verdict~~

For whites, I do like these type of in wash stain removers, and have found this to be as effective as some of the more expensive ones. I don't tend to use it in dark washes because of the high content of bleaching agents; I have a preference for black staying black and not turning a shade of grey! I often have white table cloths with lots of stains following an enthusiastic grabbing and spilling of food and drink. When I use this product, I am able to wash the offending articles at a lower temperature and miraculously, and hey presto, they come out of the washing machine a lovely stain free white. As yet, I haven't had to soak any items as the product seems to work well in the washing machine, and I don't want to make work for myself!

For anyone wanting to remove stains effectively and with minimum effort, I would recommend this.

      Thanks for reading.
