Let me tell you something very exciting.
I'm a student, and have lived in a student house for two years now. At first, being skanky and studenty we opted for "value" loo roll, you see loads and loads of it in Sainsbury's, and every student walking back from the supermarket is carrying a pack (or 5) of this stuff. So we followed the trend, and suffered with it for a year.
During this period of time, we found that we were using masses and masses of loo paper, about a roll a day (for 4 people), which is horrendously rediculous. The reason behind this is simple. It's manky. Not only do we have to suffer with itchy bottoms from stratchy toilet paper, but it's not absorbent in the least, and so you have to use more to get the same result as less of a "better quality" loo roll would give you.
So, we came to the conclusion that...
CHEAP LOO ROLL ISN'T GOOD VALUE.
SO we started buying slightly more expensive stuff. I'm not talking Andrex or Charmin or anything, I'm talking about simple, bog standard (no pun intended) shop's own bog roll. Much better. It's not scratchy, it's absorbent enough, and we don't use a ton of it every time we pop to the loo. Yes, we'd prefer to spend more on the posh stuff, but we can't afford that sort of luxury. But normal shops own stuff is just as cost-effective as nasty-cheap-scratchy Sainsbury's economy stuff, so I'd recommend getting that over the "10p a roll" stuff.
