Advantages: Lovely smell, cheap, gets rid of stains
Disadvantages: None
I've always been pretty fussy when it comes to certain things for my household, and there are certain household products which I will pay a bit extra for because I believe them to be the best, and I don't want to compromise on quality. One such product is my laundry washing liquid, I have always used Persil as thats what my mum uses, and I was pretty adamant I would always stick to the tried and tested make of Persil. But when I saw this Sainsburys own brand concentrated liquid for just £1.99 on special offer, I couldn't resist the bargain price, and thought it would be worth a go.
This product is called Sainsburys Super Concentrated Liquid, and is the 'colour' variety, which means it help to keep colours bright and fresh in your clothing, and to help avoid fade on your clothes. The packaging is simple but does the job, a white plastic bottle which purple writing and a plastic measuring cap, which follows the colours of bigger names like Persil who also use the colour purple on their colour products. The bottle contains 735ml of washing liquid, which they say is suitable for around 20 washes.
Probably the first thing (aside from the price of course) that attracted me to buying this product was its smell. Usually, detergents don't really smell overly nice and I have to add lots of fabric conditioner to get a nice fragrance on our clothes, but when I unscrewed the cap to have a sniff, I was really surprised with the lovely smell that came out! It was quite floral, and pretty strong but in a really good way. That sold it to me, and I popped the bottle into my trolley. I needed to do a wash as soon as I got home so I thought it was a good time to try this product out. I did a medium sized wash, but decided to use a capful of the detergent because we have quite hard water and it can take a lot to get a good lather going in the machine. As always with these products, it works best when put into the drawer of your washing machine.
So I left the machine to do its thing, and an hour later I went to collect my newly washed washing. As soon as I opened the machine door, that lovely smell hit me again, a bit more diluted this time but still definitely there. The wet clothes really were infused with this smell, they smelt so clean and fresh, I loved it! I hung it all up on my airers in my bedroom and after just a few minutes, the room was filled with the fragrance too, which was really good as I adore the smell. Even after airing and ironing the smell lingers, and it really does smell so clean and fresh to me, I have stopped using fabric softener because I dont' want to mask this smell!
Now to the important bit - does it actually work? Well, yes I have to say it does! None of the clothes I wash are too dirty, Harry's is the worst with lots of food stains on it from tomato sauce to mayonnaise, and a lot of mud in this weather too! Yet no stain has proved too tough for this product, and everything has come out stain free! I managed to spill tomato sauce on a silver cotton top the other day and thought it was ruined which upset me, but after a hot rinse and wash with this product, the stain has come out, and for that this product deserves 5 stars alone! As well as leaving the clothes smelling nice and stain free, they are really nice and soft as well. I definitely don't need to add any softeners to the wash, all of Harry's clothes come up lovely, and when they've been in the airing cupboard for a few hours, the heat activates the smell again and it is soft and lovely!
This product is excellent value for money, as it retails at £2.68 for 735ml of concentrated gel, whereas you would be looking at paying £3.98 for the Persil equivalent, so thats £1.30 a time you'll be saving on your shopping, and it soon adds up! The recommended dose on the bottle does the job to be honest, you don't need gallons of it to make it work which is what worries me about buying cheaper products, but this seems to be a real working detergent at a superb price. The smell is lovely, it gets rid of stains, and its cheap - what more could you ask for?! This is definitely going to be my detergent of choice from now on, and I hope I've convinced you to at least give it a try!
