Advantages: funky little cleaning cloths
Disadvantages: don't make cleaning fun - what could?!
For want of a product existing that would make me actually like cleaning, things that cheer me up or make it easier are the next best thing.
These cleaning cloths come in packs of three and various cheery designs with a contemporary feel. They are £1.16 for three, which is a bit more pricey, however I think they are worth paying a little more for. They can be bought at most major supermarkets and also online at www.sarahsmith.co.uk. The design pictured here is called "moo" but there are other designs available, my favourite being "scooby" and you can buy dusters, microfibre cloths and aprons in the same design should you wish.
The cloths are fairly sensibly packaged with just a little sleeve, my only criticism being that it does not state whether said packaging is recyclable, I have emailed the company to ask and will update my review if they let me know. (update, the emailed me back and the packaging is apparently polypropene and recyclable where facilities available).
The packet has "made in Britain" stamped proudly on it - all Sarah Smith products are produced in Britain or are fair trade. The brand is produced by Severn Delta in Somerset, and there is a range of other items in the same prints from dusters to blankets. This being the modern age apparently Sarah Smith have their own blog and facebook group! I wouldn't go so far as joining the group, but have to say that the products I have tried so far have been reasonably priced and well made. I have not been able to establish what they are made of, they are not cotton so I would assume that they are some sort of man-made fibre.
Back to the actual usage of the cleaning cloth - it is billed as being ultra absorbent, which it is, it glides over worksurfaces with ease and also cleans bathrooms well - well it does when my husband uses it! Used dry the cloth also buffs to a shine quite well.
For hygiene purposes the cloths can be washed in the machine, which I do at 30 degrees. I find the cloths survive quite a few washes very well, though they do lose some of their pile over time. The designs are always quite funky, and though they don't quite transform me into a 1950's stylee Stepford Wife cleaning devoutee, at least they brighten up a dull job!
I would recommend these cleaning cloths as being better than cheaper alternatives, and I am really pleased to be able to buy something that is actually British and cheers up my day. Now back to that cleaning I should be doing....
Summary: a different looking cleaning cloth lurking in a supermarket aisle near you
