Eliminate Nasty Smells! (SC Johnson Oust)

Advantages: Refreshing air freshener.

Disadvantages: Odour doesn't last long!

Having a much disapproved habit of smoking, I know........ it's wrong but during the winter months it's harder to keep those windows open for hours on end, I plumped for Oust aerosol.

~ Price ~

Due to my bi-monthly trip to Costco I acquried a 3 pack of Oust; 2 Outdoor Scent and 1 Garden Fresh.

I can' t remember how much I paid for them in Costco but in Asda one 300ml aerosol spray is currently priced at £1.62

~ Packaging ~

The first thing I noticed was that the sprays don't have a lid which I'm not overly keen on due to 'little' hands being around the house who could easily spray this in the wrong direction. Some may prefer not having a lid as they often just get discarded.

The spray is released from the top when unsurprisingly you have to press down the nozzle.

The design on the sprays is quite attractive and striking.

~ Outdoor Scent has a bright green top with pictures of the 'outdoors' on it, including trees, a stream etc.
~ Garden Fresh has a bright reddy / pink top with, yes you've guessed it a picture of sweeping fields and flowers.

~ How to use it ~

The directions on the can are very basic but then again do you really need much help in deciphering how to use an aerosol air freshener. Just shake the can and point it towards the centre of the room.
It's not until this morning that I've read them properly and it does state that the spray isn't recommended for use on fabrics, which I have in fact been doing, spraying it on my curtains which can only be dry cleaned as I find that it's the curtains that unwanted smells tend to cling to. I have to say, that the fabric hasn't suffered any adverse effects.

~ The smell ~

I have to say that neither appear to have the scent that is suggested by it's name.

An outdoor scent to me means a fresh, newly cut grass smell. This spray certainly smells fresh but if anything it has an apple-like smell.

Garden fresh suggests flowers. This is my least popular of the two, being a little too sweet for my nasal passages but not overpowering which is often the case with so many air fresheners.

~ What does Oust promise? ~

* Eliminates bad odours without just covering them up.
* A special formula neutralises bad odour molecules in the air, e.g. pets, smoke, mildew etc.

~ My experience ~

What I like about these sprays is that they aren't too overpowering. It gives an instantly better smell to the room and manages to cover up smoke and in particular cooking smells that you don't want to linger, e.g. fried sausages and bacon (spot the one with the unhealthy diet!)

As far as eliminating the smells and the odour molecules, well I'm no scientist but from a lay persons point of view, the smells are masked and therefore suit my requirements.

I have to say that once the 3 cans are finished, I will be buying one of them again. I think I'll stay clear of the garden fresh and opt for the outdoor scent but that's just down to personal preference in smells.

All in all this is a good product that won't let you down and has been voted 'Product of the Year' although I'm not sure as to the voting process etc.. It's well worth the money for those of you who want to eliminate unpleasant smells in your home. That reminds me that I must try it in my car which it has to be said, isn't the sweetest smelling environment!
