Fresh without the fragrance (SC Johnson Oust)

'Oust' is not marketed as an air freshener, but as an odour eliminator. It doesn't mask bad smells with fragrance, it eliminates the odour instead. It does have a slight fragrance, but it is very subtle, just fresh and clean. It is called, 'outdoor scent' and really does just smell of the outdoors! A difficult one to explain! Very pleasant and it doesn't linger once the oust has done it's job.

I am unable to use fragranced air fresheners in the house or the car and they give me terrible headaches. I don't think the overpowering scent of a lot of air fresheners is very nice anyway. If I go somewhere that smells strongly of air freshener I wonder what they are trying to cover up.

I'm not sure exactly how oust does what it does, I don't know the science, but I do know it really works. According to the tin it neutralises bad odour molecules in the air. I use it all around the home and one or two sprays into the middle of any room removes those nasty smells within seconds.

Oust is packaged in an aerosol can, and the spray mechanism is built into the lid so there is no fiddly cap to get on and off. A 300ml can costs around £1.89 and lasts ages. I probably use it every day and a can lasts at least 2 months. I have also purchased the oust mini-sprays. A small plastic device you stick to the wall containing a mini aerosol. You press it and it releases a spray from the top. Useful, but not as economical as the can.

Summary: If you were to try this I don't think you would go back to fragranced air fresheners.
