Advantages: Freshens the air around your home, including food, pet & smoke smells
Disadvantages: None for me
I've just finished a quick house clean, hence the review on an odour eliminator spray.
Oust has become a popular brand more recently, probably thanks to increased television and magazine advertising. It's produced by SC Johnson, a company with a positive, long-standing reputation. Know as 'a family company', SC Johnson has years of knowledge and expertise since their creation back in 1886, so you'd expect a product that does what it claims to do.
There are a few different varieties of Oust, including the regular Outdoor Fresh Aerosol which is sold in a 300ml canister and costs around £1.65 (Tesco). There's also the 3 in 1 range of sprays in Outdoor Scent and Garden Fresh fragrances, sold in 400ml canisters and priced at £2.97 (Tesco).
The regular 300ml Outdoor Fresh comes in a canister with a blue, green and white design. It has a green lid that lifts off to reveal the push-down spray mechanism.
The product claims to 'eliminate odour without just masking'. How does it do this? Their shortened and less scientific explanation is that the 'special formula neurtralises bad odour molecules in the air', though how it does this exactly I don't know!
As these are pressurised aerosols, they're highly flammable and should be kept out of direct sunlight.
To use, simply remove the green lid and push down to spray how mch you want where ever you want. I find that a fair amount of pressure is needed when pushing down, but you get a good burst of spray which is capable of neutralising a large area. You therefore don't need to be using too much of this spray around your home, meaning it lasts for a relatively good amount of time depending on how much smell you're wanting to neutralise!
What smells is this good for? The product suggests pet, bathroom, smoke, must and mildew odours are easily tackled with Oust, though I would argue this spray can be used for anything.
How does it smell? As this isn't designed to mask odours, the smell isn't too overpowering. Outdoor Fresh has quite a clean, refreshing fragrance, that's pleasant but not too overpowering, unless you're using a lot of it.
Does it work? When I use this around the house I can notice a difference instantly. A few sprays in each room, especially in the hallway if anyone's coming around, does the job. After someone's been cooking the smell seems to waft upstairs, which is nice at first but then you want to get rid of it. Oust seems to fix that, and it also does a good job with smoke and pet smells.
The only thing I would say about it is that, depending on the fragrance you get, it may cause some irritation (eg. if you're asthmatic).
Overall I would recommend this if you want a spray thats quick and simple to use. It freshens up the air with a pleasant fragrance and does seem to rid bad odours, rather than cover one smell with another more smellier smell. There are cheaper sprays out there, but if you see this on offer it's definitely worth a try, as a fresh smelling house is always a good thing :o)
Summary: A simple to use spray that quickly freshens your home
