My Mum is an avid fan of candles and nice fresh smelling things and so tends to buy a lot of these kinds of products for herself. With them being rather expensive I only tend to get a Glade candle here and there and so I am perhaps a little more sparse in my usage of them. I do however love the smell of certain scented candles and so was delighted when she came home from a trip to Homebase recently with two scented candles Cherry and Pomegranate.
She had bought the candles for £3.29 each which is about average for a candle these days, especially because of their growing popularity. However the bottom of the candle assures me that the candle lasts for 90 hours and so if you consider this you're getting a lot for your money.
The jar is fairly heavy and also quite large. I have it sitting on a chest of drawyers in my bedroom however it is more suited perhaps to a dining room table or a mantlepiece (where we have an apple scented version downstairs). The lid on the jar is airtight which is pretty useful as whenever I want to put the candle out if I don't want to lean right in (which when the wax gets pretty low is quite difficult) I can just pop the lid on and the flame will go right out.
The shape of the jar is also beneficial as it makes me less nervous that my pets will get at the candle as sometimes my cheeky cat likes to sit on the mantle piece to survey the room. This can also be applied to children then, as it is more difficult to reach out to or move the candle itself. The glass is pretty thick which is again a beneficial part of the candle as sometimes in smaller candles is sometimes quite flimsy and as the glass gets hotter is impossible to move. With this however you can which is useful.
The scent itself is very fresh smelling and quite fruity as you'd expect. My favourite scent is probably the pomegranate scent as it is stronger smelling and also more similar to the types of scents I have become accustom to with scented candles. This scent however is still nice enough and does fill the entire room. The fact that the candle can burn so long also means you can leave it on for a long while and enjoy the scent throughout the day (attended of course, never leave an open flame alone).
One further point to mention is probably the plainess of the item as a whole. The label is a simple yellow colour and has quire plain text also. I would have preferred a more stylised label which would look nice on the product, especially as it can be used as a centre piece. The fact that the label is so plain just reduces the look of the item and if anything makes it look its price. If possible you might want to rip off the label, although this can be quite difficult because of the adhesive used.
Overall this is a great product I would use again. The price is reasonable and the scents are all fresh and don't give me migraines (which is important as I tend to get them a lot). If anything they can be known to reduce the effects of my headaches and make me feel a little less tense. I would recommend the product because at £3 odd, it definitely is a bargain.
A common cause of migraines can be smells, these can really trigger them so we are always careful to try and keep scented candles around the house and generally try to keep things nice and clean. Last time we went to Homebase (one I actually used to work in) we were not looking for candles, probably a new bin or something, but we came across a range of scented candles. We went through the selection which included the likes of Vanilla but the one that caught the attention of our nostrils was the Red Cherry candle. We had a whiff and thought it smelt nice and it didn't really cost too much at only £3.29 for 90hours burning time, that's a pretty good, 3.65p per hour. The red berry as you can imagine is a shade of red that is edging towards pink but is not a girly colour by any means and it normally sits in the middle of our dining table.
The candle comes in a nice glass jar, for the price I think getting the candle in a sturdy glass jar is brilliant, it does a great job of keeping the candle wax in and the lid forms a tight seal meaning that if you want to stop the candle burning you can just plonk the lid on and the oxygen will get depleted and blow the candle out for you. Another advantage for this kind of candle for us is that the cat is less able to get herself caught on fire, she has never done this but with the way she chucks herself around it would be a possibility with a more open candle.
The candle itself has an easy to light wick and unlike some other candles we have it only takes a second to light up, the smell is quite strong but not too strong, it fills the room pretty quickly and spreads throughout the flat if we have it on for an hour or so. One thing that I would say is that the smell isn't quite as nice and doesn't last quite as long as some of the brand name ones such as Glade, the Vanilla ones in particular are really nice. Depending on your tastes you may or may not like this product and whilst I wouldn't say the smell particularly reminds me of cherries it is quite nice.
Personally I think that the label on the front of candle looks ok and all it does is explain the scent of the candle, however I thought it would look nicer to remove the label and have the candle burning in a plain glass jar however the label is a real plain to take off and it just ends up looking terrible and I ended up being annoyed at myself until we moved onto the next one.
Overall we are very pleased with the purchase, despite the size of the candle and the length of time it lasts and the strength of the smell it is under a fiver and can sometimes even be found on special offer, a great purchase for us and we would certainly recommend them to friends after a long lasting (in terms of burning time) scented candle.
