I absolutely adore beautifully fragranced candles and despite the customary moans and groans from my hubby each time I am often burning a scent, which matches both my mood and the weather at any given time. My first choice of candles would previously be Yankee and after reading some extremely favourable reviews about Shearer, a Scottish brand established in 1897, my mission was to find a retailer. Fortunately, I discovered a seller listed on Amazon from whom I have made many purchases of numerous scents and this review discusses my experience with using Persian Lime and Grapefruit, which belongs to the Spring range of candles.

~~ APPEARANCE OF THE CANDLE ~~

I find the appearance of Shearer Candles considerably striking, particularly as they look absolutely stunning and very luxurious. The 181g candle is presented to us in a silver coloured circular tin measuring 4½ cm in height and 6 cm in diameter, which is perfectly sized to display in my home without being obtrusive. The label on the front of the tin gives a refreshing appearance with its' lime green pattern and co-ordinating narrow silver border and it is here that we learn that the candle is hand poured.

~~ BURNING THE CANDLE ~~

Identical to that of the entire range of candles contained within tins, the majority of the lid is of a sturdy transparent plastic and edged with shiny silver to match the remainder of the tin. It is easily removed where I am able to witness the delightful and very uplifting aroma of grapefruit with a delicate hint of lime hiding in the background. I have used brands of candles in the past where the wick is buried within the wax and it's been of case of scraping with a knife to release it. However, the single wick is clearly evident and within just a few minutes of lighting a small pool of wonderfully fragranced wax begins to surround it.

Once burning the candle smells absolutely stunning and my initial use was during the warm summer months. However, as I purchased eight of the delightful looking tins I am currently burning them throughout the day, particularly when the weather is wet and windy outside, as the refreshing aroma assists in lifting my mood. Within approximately ten minutes my living room starts to fill with the opening scent of the enchanting and zesty lime following by the thirst quenching aroma of juicy grapefruit. The two fragrances work extremely well together, as they are both very uplifting and refreshing. I generally tend to burn my candles for periods of 2 - 3 hours and even when the wick is distinguished I am able to witness the delightful and uplifting aroma for a good hour afterwards.

The quality of the candle is clearly evident as the wick evenly burns without leaving any unsightly and wasteful hollows of wax. Shearer Candles claim that the wax will deliver 20 hours of fragrance; a statement with which I am in total agreement, as I cannot advise of the aroma minimising the more the candle is burned. What I love about this range is that I am able to burn almost the entire tin of wax with only a very thin layer being evident when I decide to discard it.

Identical to that of all the other fragrances that I have tried from this range, the fragrance travels throughout the downstairs of my home, so they are excellent value for money. I always tend to place my candles on the mantelpiece, but as the underside of the tin becomes a little hot when using I always put a heatproof mat underneath. To prevent the build up of black smoke and to obtain maximum benefit from your candle, you should always trim the wick to a 1 cm length.

I always purchase my Shearer Candles through Amazon from a seller by the name of Casa Candles and at the time of writing, Persian Lime and Grapefruit can be purchased for £2.24 plus £1.94. I tend to purchase a box of ten each time, as the postage and packing works out more cost effective.

As this is such a delightful candle it receives five stars from me together with a huge recommendation.
