I have a real passion for beautiful fragranced products and whilst I am currently on a self-imposed ban from purchasing both toiletries and candles, a few months ago I stocked up on a large number of candle tins from Shearer all of which offered a festive aroma. I have positively reviewed three of the fragrances with this review discussing the final festive aroma, namely Winter Fig. ~~ Appearance of the Candle ~~ Shearer Candles in a Tin are a real winner for me because in addition to offering a delightful fragrance they are stunning in appearance and ooze sheer luxury. The eye-catching tin is made from shiny golden metal measuring 47 mm in height and 60 mm in width, which is handy for me, as I like to place one on the edge of the bath whilst soaking in a bath tub surrounded by a mountain of glorious bubbles. There is a dark purple label on the front of the tin, which does not detract the eye from the candle itself and in fact, adds to the attractive appearance, particularly as it is edged with gold. The wax mirrors the colour of the label and can be witnessed through the transparent plastic lid. Whilst I was 100% certain I would enjoy the other festive fragrances from Shearer I was a little unsure about this one, particularly as fig offers a rather sweet and fruity aroma and when I lifted the lid I instantly thought of Christmas cake and pudding! ~~ Burning the candle ~~ The single wick candle evenly burns and whilst the other festive fragrances from Shearer deliver a luxurious fragrance within minutes it took a good twenty minutes or so with Winter Fig. I had anticipated a rich fruity fragrance as claimed on the Shearer website, but all that was released was a rather bland aroma and I struggled to detect anything in particular and as a result, I was really disappointed. Whilst I could smell a hint of spices and fruit it did not fill my room and in fact, I could not witness any aroma unless I was within a close proximity of the candle. I left it to burn for two hours and whilst the fragrance slightly intensified it was barely noticeable and I could kick myself as I bought six tins in total. I have a fairly strong sense of smell and my husband jokes that my nasal passages are similar to those belonging to a sniffer dog! Perhaps if I burn all of my candles at once I may be able to experience a stronger and more desirable fragrance! On a positive note, the wax evenly burns and unlike some cheaper brands there is no hollow, so I am able to use almost all of the wax contained within the tin. Shearer claim that the wax will burn for 20 hours and with my experience of using their candles I would agree with this claim. The lift off lid is easily replaced when the candle is not in use, but for the reasons as discussed above I cannot recommend this fragrance, which is my first Shearer disappointment. Consequently, it receives only two stars from me. ~~ Price and Availability ~~ At the time of writing Shearer Winter Fig can be purchased on Amazon for £2.40 plus £1.78 postage and packing. I hope you found my review useful and thank you for reading.
